Earlier today, we covered a new online sandbox called Avorion that’s just launched on Steam this month – and it was a real launch, no early access shenanigans. Studio Boxelware describes the game as a vast sandbox where players fight pirates, explore the galaxy, befriend factions, build up a fleet, make money, smuggle goods, and even join with other players.

“Start out as a nobody at the edge and work your way to the center of a galaxy that gets more dangerous, but also more rewarding the closer you get to its core. Avorion takes sandbox aspects from games like X or Freelancer, throws in co-op multiplayer and lets you build your own ships. It features ships made of freely scalable blocks that can be procedurally generated and that break into pieces where they’re hit in space fights.”

Boxelware has kindly granted us 10 keys for the game, worth $24.99 apiece, all to hand out to our readers. Read on for your chance to win!

I love exploring and gathering. I usually turn off “drop everything when you die” setting and start exploring.

I’m not sure I’ve ever played a space sandbox, so having a favorite activity would be difficult. Still, be nice to win and finally see what I’m missing!

My favorite thing is getting to go all over and do whatever I feel like without a time limit or small space to do it in.

I like exploring and doing extras without going straight through the main quest line.

I haven’t really played many Space Sandboxes though. I forgot about No Man’s Sky which I have but only barely started to play. I meant to play through that but stopped to do something else and was lost when I returned to it :P I’m going to have to completely start it over one day. So many games so little time :(

I’m torn between mining, exploring and trading… I’ll stick to mining because most games don’t mess up on this part. Exploring is too dependent of the universe the devs created, and trading sometimes is made useless by some design decisions.

My favorite thing to do is chill out and enjoy the sights.

No Man’s Sky is pretty fun, but I’ll call back to the original Privateer! It was kinda sandboxy… flyin around making money to get out of that starter ship!
