The Repopulation works through an annoying crash issue and begins filling out whitebox areas

The April update from The Repopulation notes some pretty important progress. The latest build has addressed a persistent 02 crash issue with the help of player assistance, clearing out approximately 98% of the game’s crashing issues. There are a number of other things to work on, like the game’s item system and database and setting up NPCs, but more stability is always welcome.

The April update has also started filling in whiteboxed areas of The Repopulation with fresh buildings and assets. The update post offered thanks to players who were able to log in and help guide the devs with feedback on building placement, noting that moving whiteboxed buildings in real time while players watched and offered their input would only be possible in the HeroEngine. Expect more such events in the future.

Finally, the update notes a slightly smaller map size, moving maps from 590×590 to 567×567. This change was done in order to help clear out custom shader and heightmap node data issues. All of the latest changes can be found in the patch notes.

MMO players will recall that The Repopulation was Kickstarted twice for around $230,000 and hit Steam early access in 2014, where it’s lingered ever since – excepting the year it was offline entirely thanks to the HeroEngine dispute that ultimately saw Idea Fabrik take it over in 2017.
