One of the biggest flaws with Champions Online’s business model has been that the game’s greatest strength — being able to mix-and-match powers to make a truly unique superhero — was locked behind either a subscription or a $30 purchase of a “freeform” character slot.
That flaw is getting covered up, at least for the time being, as Cryptic is handing out one freeform character slot to everyone who logs into the MMO. This free giveaway apparently is in reaction to the current quarantine situation, as it will only be available until April 17th.
“We know the world is dark right now, and we want to say thank you to you for choosing to visit Millennium City as an escape,” Cryptic said. “With that in mind, you can find a freeform slot for your account in game right now…absolutely free!”
Do we really have to tell you that this is a “must get” promotion, even if you don’t play Champions right now? You just don’t see studios giving away one of their pricier cash shop unlocks every day.
