City of Titans shows off some recent images of Alexandria City

The folks at City of Titans have stayed busy (and stayed safe), with continuing work on fleshing out the Alexandria City location. In a recent update post, Missing Worlds Media has granted another series of shots of how things are coming along.

The post touts that “the city lives,” with a number of details added including work on the Olympia neighborhood, the areas surrounding the Ephesus University campus, and even some work on the bridges leading out of Alexandria City and into the Old Bradford neighborhood. There are a number of new locations to ogle in the images, including nightlife locations near the university and a monument to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Atlas.

As one would expect, this update is more about images than words, but it at least gives followers of City of Titans some idea on how far along the project is coming to this point. We’ve put together a gallery of those images below.

I think all these super hero games in the works should stop trying to produce realistic looking visuals (and awkwardly failing), and instead move to a more stylized look. Maybe a more comic book look, or cartoon look, or even cell-shaded.

Because all of the games so far, look like asset flips.

…I think they’re trying to emulate ghetto’sh areas of City of Heroes…to which CoH did so much better before anyone heard about World of Warcraft. Just saying.

This. Spiritual successor (one of three) for CoH.

due to CoH’s dated engine, the visuals actually LOOK kinda comic book like by default.

They were also working on a new experimental visual option to make the game look more solid colored with black outlines (like a comic) as well.

Even still, aside from the cars in the game, most of the environment/city/zone assets in CoH just fit better and blend better with everything, including the character graphics.

These 3 new CoH “tributes” just look… “off”.

I still think they needed to come up with a theme instead of just “hey, lets use the default “plain” look from the unreal/unity engine assets.”

The cel-shading option was in CoH well before sunset, along with the major engine upgrades that made the game look much more detailed and pretty and jacked up lighting and reflections and all that. :D

Champions actually had a command line option you could use to turn cel-shading OFF. And it looked so much better with it off. I haven’t tried the CoH version but maybe I’ll check into that later today. I tend not to like it except in rare cases. It’s just an art style I’ve never really gone for.

Same, I don’t usually use it – but I’m glad it’s an option for people who like it! (I think the one game I prefer it in is Trove, of all things, but I think that was a player mod.)

Champions Online did that back in 2009 and still does.

Oh thank goodness. Here I was thinking they might actually show something worthwhile this time, like… I dunno, gameplay or something.

Okay… obviously, I am all about in-game photography. Like… 100%

But once again, here is CoT with a bunch of static images taken with a dev cam. Static images are not a game client.
