Camelot Unchained talks about a new island scenario and other updates in a livestream

Camelot Unchained held a mid-April livestream to share some of its latest progress with backers and fans. Specifically, Mark Jacobs, who broadcast live from his home as the studio members are working from home for the time being.

In the video, Jacobs talks about a new island RvR scenario as well as the Devout classes that are currently in testing for IT-level backers. Jacobs hopes to make this new test build available for alpha backers as soon as possible — possibly as soon as this weekend. This island scenario, readers will recall, is part of CU’s “90-day plan” revealed during a February livestream.

Jacobs also took a moment to confirm the team’s commitment to its BSC goals, admitting that he’s stubbornly making sure that features are delivered and the title isn’t soft-launched. There’s also a point in the video where he answers a question about taking money from investors who want to change the direction of Camelot Unchained, and a point where he discusses community saltiness stemming from the reveal of Final Stand: Regnarok; in response to that question, Jacobs invites people to come and test CU and see the progress being made.

All those kickstarter wave of promising mmos is going downhill, elyria bites the dust already, crowfall seems that its on the way as well, CU same as crowfall all talk no walk. Pantheon is yet to be seen.

Things I’ve done since Camelot Unchained’s kickstarter ended…

1) Gained a BA and MA degree.
2) Visited several continents.
3) Said goodbye to several loved ones.
4) Started my first career and reached a supervisory position.
5) Played 3 or 4 wow expansions.
6) Grown a very long beard.

I honestly don’t understand how we can be here without a release date. Mark seems very genuine man and I don’t doubt his intention to make and release the game he kickstarted (unlike others), but it shouldn’t take this long to make a game.

it shouldn’t take this long to make a game.

But it takes so long. A well thought-out, stable and fun-to-play MMORPG, which goes its ‘own way’ and doesn’t copy the top dogs of the genre, needs plenty of development time — around 8 years it seems.

Wow took 5 years from start to finish. Dark age of camelot only took a couple.

DAoC was built upon

  • the NetImmerse 3D engine
  • the graphics engine of Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict
  • server code of Darkness Falls: The Crusade

Also, DAoC ran on a few rented Dell Servers.

Maybe, if you’re talking about a traditional MMO with tons of PvE content. This game will be almost totally PvP.

This game will be almost totally PvP.

with

  • battles of 1k+ players at 60+ fps
  • dedicated crafters and a sophisticated gear-system
  • destructible player-made buildings
  • customizeable skills
  • realm specific races and classes; no mirroring
  • etc. etc.

OK. I guess all is forgiven, then.

Are we really going to use the Star Citizen defense now?

If people do not realize that great and feature-rich games need a long development time, then yes, I will bring up “the Star Citizen defense”.

If only you had been there to inform Mark Jacobs of the time needed for development. He seems to have been as clueless as the rest of us.

My father used to talk about all the fun things we would do, before drinking himself out of his mind and forgetting he even had children.

    Let’s see how they deliver.

As always, so busy, busy, busy…..

But when does this train get to its destination.

Here I thought the passengers on Manifest were missing for a long time…pffft… what’s 5 years?

The time for talk has come to an end. Just do it and I will be there.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s up on our servers now and our IT has had access to it for two days. As we get their feedback and our performance data, we’re fixing/iterating on it. In the three weeks art is going to be prettying it up and we’ll be good to go I hope for all-Backer access tests.

This is part of the what will be our first 24×3 server which will include the Home Islands, new classes, etc.

OMG yes. Will this also include a possible drop of the NDA so we can stream or at least share some pics freely?

    Reader
    Mark Jacobs

Yep, as soon as this area is good to go, we’ll allow limited streaming (not during certain tests for example).

When will the NDA be dropped so everyone can see how the game is shaping up?

    Yep, as per above.

In the mean time, I requested a refund via e-mail at the end of January, 2020. I haven’t heard a response yet. Are refunds being processed?

    Reader
    Mark Jacobs

Do you mean support hasn’t responded to you or that you don’t have a refund yet?

No response from support. I sent an e-mail request 1/31/20 asking what I would need to provide to get a refund. I no longer have access to the e-mail account I used when I backed CU, so I don’t know the transaction ID #. I do have my login and password to the official website that I got when I backed. Can you guys use that info to track my transaction #?

All you need to do is contact PayPal or Kickstarter (depending on when you pledged) and they will get you the TID. Both companies have access to information that we don’t (credit card # or bank info or other means you used) to verify who you are. Once you do that, you’ll be good to go. And in your case, even though you don’t have access to that account, you’ll still be able to get the info. Once you have that, support will be able to help you, no worries.

Great, thanks! It was way back at the beginning, before I had PayPal, so I guess I need to talk to KS. Thanks for the help.

    Reader
    Mark Jacobs

No worries, they’ll help you out fairly quickly from what other people have told me. And you’re lucky, they tend to be easier to deal with that PayPal based on the feedback we’ve gotten from Backers. Both will get you the info, it just seems KS is faster. :)

Sorry to see you go but obviously, the fault is ours. Hopefully you’ll return when we launch. Thanks for your long-term support!

Yep, the plan is to see what state the game is released in and potentially buy in again at that point.

That’s more than someone in our position could expect, so thank you for that. And again, thanks for being such a long-term support.

G’night RH, have a good one and please, stay safe during these lovely times we all live in.
