The Daily Grind: What’s your favorite MMO cosmetic pet?

SIR

Yeah, this is the very definition of a fluffy post! I’m just a big proponent of cosmetic pets in MMOs, partially because it adds some form of personal expression and partially because it tickles me so see some innocent little critter blindly follow me into war zone after war zone. If you only knew what it saw, you’d understand why it has night terrors.

So I’m always on the lookout for some great pets in MMOs (and cursing the fact I can only display one at a time instead of a whole zoo entourage). The weirder and more unique, the better. For example, this is a list of my six favorite pets from RIFT, including the chain-smoking Bernie and a sinister duck.

I’d love to hear about your favorite cosmetic pets from MMOs — and pictures are always welcome! Who do you want waddling at your side?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I have lots, I typically match them to my aesthetic. The most frequently used would be a treant buddy for my Druid.

Never use them, (never use any cosmetic that can not be dropped ingame either).
I did have that chicken you could get in wow by doing /chicken 10 times, but it was not for cosmetic purposes.. I roleplayed a character who was mindcontrolled by the chicken.

I … Actually don’t like cosmetic pets at all. At best, they’re an immersion breaking nuisance and at worst they’re a potentially lethal distraction.

I had a flying pet in ESO. Darned thing blocked my view when I was trying to kill a mob, and I couldn’t see my target, so I just swung blindly at nothing until I died.

Stopped using pets after that.

I quite like her (please see 1st image attached). Mr. raphael gave me that as a present.

…I believe I was one of the first folks to get this on my server (see 2nd image attached).

And yes, Springers aren’t pets but there are Springer minis which I have several. I just liked that shot and skin better :)

The succubus minion in FFXIV because she hangs on to your shoulder. Also like the Edda minion swinging her scythe around.

Am I the only one who finds them silly? I disable them in LotRO and they’re part of the reason I stopped playing ESO.

I don’t know, it’s just weird seeing Slapsyomoma show up in glorious over the top black armour with his otherworldly set of weaponry. Accompanied by his pet pony… braided tail included. Blocking the view of mobs.

I do not see anything weird in having minions in a fantasy video game ;-)
