Last week, we wrote about Project Gorgon’s animal husbandry system thanks to a tip from MOP reader Dalton, and I have to say I was super impressed.
See, when I started MMOs way back in the day, “animal taming” was basically down to finding a pet, clicking a button to tame it, and doing your best to heal and feed it while it destroyed your enemies. It wasn’t until Star Wars Galaxies came along that pet and taming systems in MMOs truly evolved into bio-engineering and breeding mechanics, minigames in their own right. To date, the best breeding system I’d seen in an MMO was an addon to the SWG NGE period, the Beastmaster tree, which involves piles of resources and multiple crafters and special ingredients and days of incubating and configuring future pets in tanks to have just the right stats. And lucky rolls for mutations too! (That pic up above is my own [dormant] lab in SWG Legends.)
Project Gorgon’s new system sounds an awful lot like SWG’s, complete with genetics simulation and appearance mutations. It’s so much more than just a point-and-click taming system from the MMOs of yore, and yet it all feeds into the same type of gameplay.
