Star Citizen talks about the creation and gameplay functions of space cows and space whales

Star Citizen’s planetary surfaces are pretty vast, but they also are pretty barren of fauna, which means that either the devs haven’t had a chance to create critters yet or the UEE has utterly broken the natural order, and since those burgers and burritos have to get their protein from somewhere, we assume it’s the former and not the latter. Also, the recent Calling All Devs video talked about the first creatures coming to the game, so there’s that, too.

The video specifically talked about the introduction of the space cow and space whale. The cow is known as the Kazi Grazer, and as the moniker “space cow” would have you believe, it’s a herd animal and is likely herbivorous. Space whales, meanwhile, don’t have a name just yet, but will be found in Crusader.

What do these new beasts mean for the game? Beyond simply having new things to look at, these creatures could also become a source of materials, with things like hide and eggs (yes, eggs) harvestable from the Grazers and some form of harvestable barnacle-like resource that can be plucked from the back of space whales, which means landing on these creatures and nabbing things from their bodies will apparently be a thing.

After flora which got more visibility with Microtech, fauna and AI NPC’s are the best way to make landscape and cities look lifelike.
About others comments:

– The word whale and whale joke are totally part of SC fan dictionary. You can’t usurp a word you do not own. Using it is not usurping, whatever the view of naysayers,

– SC pledge is 45$ (depending on local taxes), not an extra cent. Fortnite gathered 3 Billion $ in one single year, 11 times what SQ42+SC did in 7 years… selling skins. Either it is illegal or legal.
Apparently, SC letting consumer (and Org) pledge for assets which are considerably more complex in creation and function than a simple clothe skin is weird…. This is milking!, devs should not be paid, please deliver a soulless game with no ambition… knowing some Fortnite whale (oh yes because that is the news of century, most games have whales, not only SC…) do spend hundreds.

– Based on those facts, SC being a company who can’t reply directly to baseless attack is practicing the best strategy: mock the mockers. Announcing “real” whales and cows in game before any other fauna is the best joke by far :)… and they manage to make it good as usual.

Well, I’m clearly too late to bother saying anything about the whales..

So……can I assume the cows can be milked for cash?

But can a Whale tame and name their own Whale? Or is that another 10K package?

Space Whales? Must be the mascot of the people still giving Roberts money.

The gameplay function of space whales is to fund Roberts’ never-ending vanity project. Obviously.
