New pictures hint at the potential look of Final Fantasy XI’s mobile version

Ahem.

Remember ages ago, when we first heard about Final Fantasy XI getting a mobile version in collaboration with Nexon? Remember how we’ve barely heard anything about it since then? It’s not just you, that project has been quiet for a very long time. But there is at least a hint of light at the end of the tunnel with the arrival of a new set of screenshots that certainly appear to be area textures and maps along with concept art.

The images are supposedly taken from a portfolio page that now produces a 404 error, and they show off some familiar zones (Windurst, La Theine Plateau, Gustaberg, and Sarutabaruta) along with concept art regarding several environmental designs. It’s not sure if this is legitimate art or just early concept work; either way, it sure does look nice, especially if you recognize these zones from the original game and are eager to revisit them once more.
