Let’s face it: The best throne that most of us will ever sit on is the one that squats in our shameful bathrooms. The window for any of us ascending to royalty and getting the Fancy Chair is closing, and so we must content ourselves with window-shopping in fantasy MMO throne rooms.
Katriana shows us that even swans are more respected than you in Lord of the Rings Online: “Well timed challenge, Justin. Just so happens that I was just in Minas Tirith yesterday for a scavenger hunt and got this shot of the throne room. The floors are very shiny in here.”
But what’s a throne and throne room without a lot of heavily armored guards striking up poses and standing around silently while counting down the minutes until their union-mandated coffee break? Scott notes that “it’s good to be the Pope in Final Fantasy XIV,” and I’m inclined to agree. If only my guards would make tunnels for me to walk through, I’d feel more validated in my life.
“Here is Neverwinter’s throne room,” posted Redbook. “The throne resides in the Hall of Justice, a former temple of Tyr.”
Wait, where’s Batman? Aquaman? That other guy with his underwear on the outside? That’s an imposter Hall of Justice!
Bryan takes us to the fiery throne room of Path of Exile, where kings are but inches away from marshmallow roastings. Have you ever noticed how many throne rooms have a lion motif going on? My throne room would be aardvarks. No reason. Just massive, imposing stone aardvarks.
Finally, we’ll change things up a bit with Minimalistway’s beautiful shot of a Tree of Savior flower field. Dang, this game always makes me envious of its environments.
In the spirit of that last picture, this week’s screenshot challenge is to post pictures of isometric, 2-D, or (heck) text-based MMOs. You know, if you have some. If not, post whatever you like. I’m not going to stop you!
