The Daily Grind: What’s your favorite empty, neglected zone in an MMORPG?

Stuff. You. Give. Me.

Since dipping my toe back into classic Guild Wars last month for the anniversary fun, I took myself on a wee tour of some of the zones I remember loving. They were pretty empty, of course, but they were empty back in the day too. That was half the reason I liked them. Before my guild got a guild hall, for example, I used to hang out in Fisherman’s Haven and Icetooth Cave in Tyria.

And if you’re thinking “where the heck are Fisherman’s Haven and Icetooth Cave,” then you’ve understood my point: I liked them because they were small, out of the way zones, with nothing important in them and no reason for other people to linger. But they were also charming and beautiful, with good music – a great place to make home base for things like banking without being disturbed by clutter and spammers. Besides, I could always jump over to a bustling hub city if I wanted more of a social feel. I loved that the game had both.
