World of Warcraft’s infamous Leeroy Jenkins raid gaffe is 15 years old

The date was May 11th, 2005. The guild was known as Pals for Life. The location was the Rookery. And the plan was meticulous, with a 32.33, repeating of course, percent chance of survival… until one man returned from preparing a plate of chicken and World of Warcraft history was made.

Just in case you’re not already feeling old by mere dint of the headline, the infamous Leeroy Jenkins video is 15 years old as of yesterday, which was noted in the gaming subreddit on the anniversary of the original video’s debut. The antics of Jenkins would go on to be a part of wider pop culture outside of WoW itself, of course, with a reference in Hearthstone as a card, a reference that was cut from the film Monsters Vs. Aliens, and even a reference in a Jeopardy! clue. Of course, WoW itself has paid tribute to the video with an achievement for killing 50 Rookery Whelps.

Care to travel back in time? Or perhaps you’re too young to recall what this whole thing is about? Either way, the video was reuploaded to YouTube for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
