World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has many new race customizations and is considering endless Torghast runs

A new alpha build for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands means new character customization options being added, because that is the most important thing in this expansion. That’s not a joke, that’s a fact of life. And there’s new stuff indeed: face shape customization for Humans, earrings and feathers for Dwarves, eye colors for Forsaken, body paint and colors for Tauren, hairstyles and beards for Gnomes, and noses and ears for Goblins. That’s a lot of new customization options while still not covering a lot of other races, hmm?

Meanwhile, there’s also a new interview with lead encounter designer Morgan Day in which Day expresses plans about potentially letting players visit Torghast endlessly to earn more cosmetic rewards. This would be different from “normal” Torghast runs, which would be more limited and allow players to assemble Legendary items. So you can have more options if you want to farm for appearances over power, a nice nod toward all those cosmetic options we just listed.

Yes and yes.

Dont let Torghast become this expansions Islands and Battlefronts. Its too fun not to let people play as often as they want. People were actually saying they would play it for NO reward. Ian said something like “We dont want people just playing this…” Well why the F not?!?! Let people play how they want as long as its not 1. breaking rules and 2. Screwing up someone elses gameplay.

I’m on the boat that Ion saying idiotic things is pretty much expected now.

I’m just hoping for more short hairstyles for male characters. xD

Most options now are…decidedly plain or just look bad. There’s a handful spread across the races (one or two for Blood Elves, one for Void Elves, that awkward looking Goku one for Humans I guess…)

Graphic tweaks and ‘letting’ folks grind the same content endlessly?

Not my idea of expansion level content.

It really seems to me that the WoW designers and developers are trying to dig themselves out of a hole.

Perhaps you forgot about the new, huge zones with tons of story driven quests, new mechanics, dungeons, and raids.

My only problem with Torghast is that…it looks like shit.

I don’t know how the hell people can handle running what looks like “Halls of Reflection 1.5 but with more metal and less skulls” for hours on end.

probably because all you are really focused on is the combat. Its fast, and crazy. You arent really spending time taking in the sights or admiring the 4k textures (or lack there of)

I guess. I saw some streamers playing through it, and it seems that you do have time to think and look a bit.

That being said, yeah, the gameplay seems awesome.

I really like having more options, but I wonder if all the resources that were used for this could have been used for something better. The new options are beautiful, but wow has very few pieces of armor to show things like tattoos or fur color. If people don’t walk around naked, most of it will not be visible.
Maybe I’m wrong here, but I find it hard to see the point of all these customization options.

I’m really disliking this emphasis on Torghast – I hope it doesn’t become the mainstay of this expansion.

i doubt it, its just that people have been asking for more solo progression its a highlight that is important for them as a selling point for the expansion. It shows because of all the talk about it both from the devs and the players.

I want solo progression so I’ll never have to rely on anyone else to get gear upgrades. Every system in game that has meaningful progression beyond solo requires non-queued groups. And we all know what happens when players control who can participate. I hate ilevel requirements, ioraider, achievement investigations, ahead of the curve. Not that i dont understand the need of such extreme measures, I dont want to bother with it. Let me progress on my own so another player cannot control my playtime or playstyle.

Good point – it is nice to have a solo resource.

Its not even about the progression

People are enjoying the game play so much they want to do it WITHOUT REWARDS!

Characters customization always interests me, even in games I don’t play. I was looking through the photos of changes and I cannot tell the difference between triangle and heart shaped faces, and definitely can’t tell the difference between nose shapes from the pictures. But seeing the goblin ear shapes makes me grin, because for the short stint I had in WoW, I played a goblin and really liked the race.

I’ll likely never play WoW again, but I did love my goblin Warlock. She was a nice change for me as I almost never play smaller races, my old main was a troll, but yeah, WoW never has been one for character customizations beyond the basics, so any improvement is noticeable.

I had to look very, very closely…and I could still barely tell. It’s an incredibly minor difference, which actually mostly impacts the size/shape of the eyes, nose, and mouth., rather than really being a difference in the shape of the jaws/cheeks like you’d expect.

Could be a little more noticeable in-game and animated, but yeah it’s really subtle with the human faces.

To follow-up (cause I missed the edit window) – I’m actually surprised that we’re getting both these minor variations in face appearance alongside the more distinct ones that have been showing up in the alpha client that are like the ones shown at Blizzcon.

Blizz managed to exceed my expectations on this one.

Nice progress. It’ll only take a couple more centuries for WoW characters to look as detailed as BDO characters today.

Maybe in that same timeframe BDO will eventually let you do something as complex as giving a piece of gear to a friend?

You mean – after making most of them non-sellable and character-bound upon first use? Not sure if it’s a good idea at all, I prefer being able to buy almost any equipment on exchange.

Strawman, much?
A) Mats are never soulbound, so if I gather or get mats like herbs or ore, I just give them to my friends and guildies.
B) if I’m going to give something to a friend like a green items or BoE blue or purple, recipes, etc – why would I use it first? That would be pretty stupid.

Instead, BDO UTTERLY PROHIBITS any thing as simple as “Oh I have this and you need it? Here, you can have it.” Ridiculous.

Can you freely set your own prices on the exchange yet? Or are you stuck with what low/high caps they insist are fair?

For PvE, BDO’s a great massively online single player game.

Pink and pigtail Gnomes now come with a Chibiusa option. <3

I got so happy when I saw that. It was totally out of left field for me, but very welcome. I smile thinking about there being Sailor Moon fans on the WoW dev team.
