Betawatch: Dual Universe could go to consoles – but isn’t planning on it

And a real universe.

You’d think an entire piece from the Dual Universe team about how the game wasn’t planned for consoles and will still not be going to consoles would be kind of superfluous, but apparently not so much. No, in fact, there’s apparently quite a bit to say on the topic! Even if, at the end of the day, it still means that DU remains in the same development track. But there are always enterprising fans…

Enough on the console front, this isn’t Consolewatch, it’s Betawatch.

And that’s that! Betas are done forever. Except for next week, of course, and the whole long list we have below for your perusal. Feel free to let us know if something in the list there has skipped phases without us noticing, too; it’s downright neighborly of you.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

AdventureQuest 3D: Open beta
Arcfall: Pre-alpha

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.

Probably turn into a shit show of questionable behavior and whining. Still, nothing like it on console. Nms don’t count

Dual Universe has never particularly struck me as a console game, or at least a game that’s so popular that a console port would be worth it.

I can’t begin to imagine how wonky voxel building of its apparent complexity would be on a controller.
