Sea of Thieves’ Lost Treasures update adds checkpoints to Tall Tales, daily bounties, and regular events

The latest content update for Sea of Thieves has brought a bunch of treasures. Lost Treasures, to be exact. Except they’re found and being distributed to players of the piratical sandbox. Hair splitting over an update name aside, there’s a number of new things added to the game.

For those players who want to take on the game’s narrative Tall Tales PvE quests, they’ll find tooltips on the map to show them which island to begin, as well as a new checkpoint system to let players take these adventures on at their own pace. As for players who prefer to write their own adventures, there are new daily bounties with tasks like taking on named targets, handing in specific types of treasure, navigating to a specific location, or taking out enemies with a certain move among other things.

In addition, players can look forward to weekly and one-time events. During this update, every Friday is Fort Night, which increases the returns on all Stronghold treasure taken from Skeleton Forts. There’s also a Reaper’s Rewards event that brings increased payment for Reaper’s Chests and Reaper’s Bounties and some new emotes to earn, as well as the return of the Hunter’s Haul fishing event.

Players can keep tabs on what’s going on in the Sea of Thieves at the Event Hub. There’s also a landing page for the update, some patch notes, and, of course, a video.

If only regular voyages could have checkpoints like that. At least last I played, later ones like Athena’s voyages required you to commit at least four hours to the game session just to get the big glowy chest turnin at the end. Would be nice if you could save progress on voyages so you can go complete one part, turn in the loot, then go pursue the next “chapter” at a later point.

But that would allow you to dramatically reduce the risk while sailing – which the latest update is absolutely not going to make happen. They’ve turned the game into Predator and Prey now, far more than at any time in the past.

Yeah I’m not really sure what they’re thinking other than maybe trying to go after the Fortnite crowd or keep Summit1G interested so he keeps giving the game free advertisement to his large Twitch audience.
