Phantasy Star Online 2 offers installation fix suggestions, promises a hitching patch on June 10

Phantasy Star Online 2 has made good on the promise for more communication it made in its apology for the MMO’s botched launch posted on Friday, with a couple of quick announcements made on the game website discussing installation problems and overall stuttering in the game’s main lobby.

On the topic of installation errors, there have been some suggested fixes shared on the website to help with a variety of error codes. With that said, the post does also promise once again that the devs are working closely with Microsoft on the issue. As for framerate hitching problems happening in the ARKS lobby, a patch is on the way for that problem this coming Wednesday, June 10th, during regularly scheduled maintenance.

These likely won’t fix everyone’s long list of woes, of course, but it at least does confirm that the devs are trying to make inroads on fixing things.

As everyone was saying down below just use PSO2 tweaker to install.

What I did:
1) Updated windows (this required two checks and two restarts to fully update)
2) log on to MS store and download PSO2 installer (don’t use it though!)
3) Download and install PSO2 Tweaker NA
4) Run Tweaker and update it then use it to download PSO2
5) Use Tweaker’s PSO2 settings to set your graphic settings. (yes it does support 4k)
6) Launch PSO2 from tweaker and have fun.

Trying to fix Microsoft store errors is the most convoluted tech problem you can imagine. There are dozens of very complex fixes and it seems completely random what works or doesn’t work. People hate on the Epic games store but it is not even close to being as bad as the MS store.

The game has nProtect too on top of the store. That is going to cause some obscure errors as well. It’s also fairly easy to bypass. Companies that use these anti-cheat programs tend to rely on them so cheating will in fact be easier than in MMOs that don’t use one. For example they might not have any server side checks for cooldowns and trust entirely on nProtect.

Agreed, while I use Gamepass I’d literally never buy a game on the Microsoft Store.

I’d sooner just not play the games rather than reward this amateur-hour store of theirs.

It’s pathetically bad.

PC will be DOA by June 10.

Players will have gone back to jp, and those that don’t care for jp will just go play another game and uninstall, like i have (no small feat uninstalling).

Gonna also put on my tin-foil hat, and say that Microsoft has sabotaged the PC launch in favor of their console users.

A lot of PC users are giving up on it already. They see what was behind MS and Sega deal. It was all about Xbox from the start. PC users are just second class users to MS.

My installation suggestion: Wait for it to be released on Steam.

Could anyone recommend good wiki sites for pso2. A lot has changed from the 2nd game back in the 90’s.

This is a wiki I don’t know how good it is though https://pso2na.arks-visiphone.com/wiki/Main_Page

It seems to be the best one so far. Thanks!

If you doesn’t want to wait till the official patch, you can get the pso2 tweaker (the utility people use to play pso2 on JP servers) and it’ll fix the lobby issues

SERIOUSLY THIS!

The tweaker is the ONLY way I’ve gotten the game to reliably work so far. You do have to install the initial 11gb file from the MS store still, but the tweaker will then do everything else including fixing all the permission issues that seem to have been causing most of the other issues people have been having (me included). You also still have to launch the game through the MS Store after tweaker installs it, but since doing this I have not had a single issue, and I was honestly about to give up before trying it as a last-ditch effort.

you can even launch the game from the tweaker now :)

I haven’t had problems and I still recomment PSO2 Tweaker if only for the fact that it gives me control over the game files.

It was a big win for us all when MS decided to allow win32 apps/games onto the MS Store, but the files remain basically touchable until someone does something like PSO2 Tweaker did.

Tweaker is honestly better in every way than the official launcher.

It’s even better than the JP launcher. Apparently, this game is plagued by bad launchers.

Is that even legal here?

“That a dumb question, Uta.”

Yeah…it’s sorta meant to be. As I really want to sus out if this a viable alternative that lets me play the version in the West without having to go through MSoft store…or not. So it seems to be a bit too good to be true at this point. /sigh

Yes. You still have to download it through the Windows Store, and i’m also sure if the Tweaker downloads it, it does THROUGH it.

It’s just better than whatever MS is dealing us right now.
