What’s in the works for the next Dual Universe alpha build? A fair number of things according to the latest Inside Novaquark podcast. The subject was all about alpha 3.1 and several updates due to the spaceship voxelbox.

The podcast is a little over an hour’s worth of new details, with discussion about improved visuals including new textures for materials, some new decorative elements like fuel intakes and hatches, an engine that introduces unique atmospheric conditions, and a large number of improvements to the new player experience like a location a tutorial area, the ability to press “H” for on-demand information on UI elements, and a lot more.

Alpha 3.1 will also introduce warp drives, which are described as an expensive shortcut to cut down the one to four hour-long travel time between planets. Warp drives can also be used to travel quickly to other heavenly bodies such as moons as well as Organization-owned stations that are equipped with warp beacons, though players will need to be a member of said Organization to use the feature.

Finally, the new build will add the ability for players to bind themselves to multiple resurrection nodes, though players will only respawn to the node that’s closest to the place they die. These updates are just the tip of the entire alpha 3.1 iceberg; there’s still discussion about features like mining ore optimization, revisions to inventory and containers, and a rebalancing of the early game crafting recipes.
