When it comes to scaling tech in MMOs — of artificially adjusting a player’s levels and stats to fit a zone’s level range — it is not always an easy thing to get right out of the gate. Cryptic admitted that Neverwinter’s old method of doing scaling calculations didn’t always have the best result, which is why the studio is tossing that out in favor of a new set of parameters.

The new scaling tech is set to go live with Neverwinter’s next module: “One of the big requests for scaling from the community was proportional scaling where all of the players stats are shifted down or up as needed in relation to the content. It isn’t perfect yet due to certain game elements. However, it should result in a better experience for many players.”

This adjustment shouldn’t be seen as the be-all, end-all fix to issues that the current scaling system has; Cryptic said that it is going to continue to work on a “seamless” and “non-disruptive” overhaul of the system in the coming months.
