Sony is considering purchasing the Chinese firm Leyou

Sorry-not-sorry, Daybreak, the problem in that relationship really was you

Accidental burn.

You probably don’t think a whole lot about Leyou at this point, but you probably should; the holding company owns most of Digital Extremes of Warframe fame (Warfame), is behind the upcoming additional Lord of the Rings MMO, and apparently has plans for Transformers Online and Civilization Online. That’s an impressive lineup, which means that it makes a certain amount of sense for Sony to consider purchasing the firm outright.

The majority shareholder has been looking to sell the company and has been heavily in negotiations with iDreamSky, which includes investments from Tencent and thus would represent a different sort of consolidation. It’s unclear just what Sony would offer yet, but the company seems confident that it can attract shareholder Charles Yuk; success would put Sony back in the online game business after it divested itself of Daybreak Games (then Sony Online Entertainment) back around the founding of this specific site. Ain’t that a saga there.
