Fortnite is a dance floor, a murder simulator, a concert hall, a movie theater, and now, a home for serious discussion: Epic Games is using party royale to host a video panel on race all day today on the 4th of July, which marks Independence Day in the United States. Prominent Black activists and journalists will lead We The People, a “a series of conversations that advance the dialogue around race in America with prominent BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) voices in business, sports, media, music, and entertainment,” as presented to players in-game.

The first airing begins at 9:46 a.m. EDT today, then runs every hour throughout the day from 1 p.m. EDT onward. (That’s 8:46 a.m. CDT in homage to George Floyd.)

This is a noble thing I feel. A lot of people are looking for answers and hopefully this delivers in an appropriate way.

Hopefully they put out a clean video on Youtube after this Fortnite promo because I don’t think I could pay proper attention to the voices in the vid when there are dozens of player avatars dressed up with all kinds of product placement fashions, dancing, and creating particle effects. I assume chat is also enabled in Party Royale (but I don’t know) and that sounds like a mistake in this case.

Whatever, I’m not Party Royale target demographic here anyway.

Just host the game. Do what you want but stop shoving your virtue signaling in my face when all I want to do is log on and relax.

They aren’t even doing anything to inconvenience people with this. The game is still running as usual and this is in a side attraction mode of the game built specifically for running events.

Online gamers are a perfect audience for this shit because too many of them still think the internet and video games are their own little bubble untainted by the problems of the real world.

Think about how petty you sound to folks who can’t “escape” real world problems like racism and sexism online. You don’t deserve the privilege if you don’t want to even endure the minor inconvenience of… being informed that optional time-limited side-content is coming to the biggest game in the West.

Fortnite’s general audience is relatively young. This is literally using a video game to indoctrinate kids on a holiday that celebrates American independence and American history. They could pick any other day to do this and could also be picking an unbiased host instead of someone who’s a regular face on CNN and former Obama official who blatantly has an agenda.

Indoctrinate them with what nefarious doctrine? The doctrine of not being racist? Damn, dude. Iā€™d sign everyone up for that cult.
