Bit Legends is a new retro-pixel mobile MMO featuring both PvE and PvP

So, who wanted a new mobile MMO? What if I tell you it’s stuffed with retro graphics and is a bit different from the usual fare getting slapped with the label MMORPG and pushed out into the wilds of Google Play? This one’s called Bit Legends, and Chinese studio TDH-Publisher is calling it a “retro pixelated wasteland filled with hundreds of monsters, bosses, pets, tons of loot to earn and customize, and a deep PvE and PvP combat system.”

“Bit Legends has players starting their adventure as a new member of a wasteland community setting out to explore a vast world where mankind struggles to survive. During their adventures, they’ll fight, capture, and evolve a wide variety of monsters to build up their team while also picking up loot which can either be equipped, upgraded, or dismantled to earn resources that will aid in their journey. As players progress and complete missions, they’ll earn experience points that can improve their core attributes: strength, attack, and agility. They’ll also be given the opportunity to choose one of three classes – Bounty Hunter, Kung-fu Master, or Engineer – each with their own talents, weapon preference, and skills. As with most MMOs, Bit Legends’ wastelanders can interact with one another in a number of ways that include adding friends, building guilds, and grouping together to tackle raid dungeons (PvE) or compete in ranked arena battles (PvP). When players need to take a break from the continuous fighting, they can take some time to customize their character’s equipment, mount, and accessories to stand out from the crowd, deck out their hero base with various flairs, and even go fishing.”

The game is currently accessible as a free-to-play title on Google Play, though the studio says an iOS version is under development for release “soon.”

Sadly, it’s the typical stamina-to-play type mobile trash with the option of paying to top off said stamina. Hard pass for me.

It’s bad enough that every PC based game from a development studio that actually has a budget tries to create “live services” and recurring spending situations that demand every possible minute of your spare time, but it’s a special level of garbage when a mobile game tries to call itself an “MMO” and do the same thing.

And it isn’t exclusive to this game; I firmly believe every mobile game that makes a point of calling out it’s “MMO-ness” and PVP are garbage.

Hey, I wonder how many different currencies this one will have? And will it do that thing that’s becoming a trend now, where they have their “gem” premium currency, that you can earn through achievements and other things in-game, but also have purchases that you can only buy with “paid gems” that function creates another in-game currency without creating a different currency?

The first person to come up with that idea deserves a poke in the eye and a short walk off a long pier. (I don’t want them dead, I just want them to think about what they’ve done).

Bring on all the 2D games. One day someone is going to nail a 2D MMO. For me, it’s kind of sandboxy, openish world with legend of zelda apperance and combat. I’ve spent so many hours in games like Stardew, Starbound, Terraria and I need more of them. This aint it though.

Graal online was like this in a way. It was a cool little MMO back in the day.

I see this sort of game being offered and all I can think is that the developers are just to lazy or unskilled to do a good graphics cover.

For me, the time of ‘Pixel Games’ is past. I was there when that was all there was and I have NO desire to return to that era.

Original TRS-80 with games on the B&W monitor using ASCII character (extended) set. Letters, Numbers, Punctuation and Blocks. Yeah. No thanks.

I have no interest in the game since its mobile but pixel art is most definitely a skill. The game looks to have some pretty nice pixel art too. I can of course understand that these types of things are a matter of taste. Personally I much prefer pixel art to low budget 3D.

Speaking of budget that is what these things really come down to. Modeling, scuplting, texturing, rigging, animating… There are so many stages to creating high quality 3D graphics that there is no way to do it for cheap.

It’s 2020, 2d had its time and it has passed.

Please elaborate.

These 2d MMORPGs are a dime a dozen. We hear news of their launch, and then nothing about future updates. They fade into obscurity rather quickly, only to be replaced by the next “retro” game that fails to gain traction. If people want “retro” graphics, they have the classics to fall back on that are more well-developed and have nostalgia.

New titles in this genre are pretty much dead on arrival. I’m more than willing to admit I’m wrong if we get more than 5 articles dedicated specifically to this game.

I gave 3 options above that go way beyond what any classic game can do, but has retro graphics. Youre just wrong all over the place. This game aint it. Thats the only thing youre right about.
