Fallout 76 rolls back some challenge completion due to auto-complete bugs

Sometimes you lose a bit of progress in an MMO. It sucks, but it happens. It sucks even more when that progress is related to something time-limited, like the Fallout 76 season where progress has been rolled back for some players due to an auto-complete bug. Some of the challenges were automatically being listed as done when nothing had happened, and that needed to be fixed… but that also means some players have wound up losing days of progress, probably due to no fault of their own.

Fortunately, players so affected are getting a make-up chance in the form of additional daily challenges to make progress along the season reward track. There’s also a bonus SCORE event kicking off on July 23rd that should help even things out, so players will be able to both clear more challenges for a while and make more progress per challenge completed. Last but not least, this weekend will host a double experience weekend, which doesn’t help you catch up on the event but sure helps you boost ahead in other areas.

Hmm. Yeah that autocomplete bug isn’t new. Not by a long shot. What is new is that the bug impacts the season so now they are working to mitigate the problem somewhat. Meh, I give them credit for trying to find ways around this but… why not just fix the damn bug!

On another note, anyone panicking because they think this will keep them from completing the season needs to chillax. There so many different challenges in the game it is hard to count. If you are still leveling, just running the linear quest line will take you a long way as challenges are often tied to the quests.

If you are done with the primary quests both from the original game and Wastelanders, you can easily complete challenges by doing the dailies and the side quests. If a challenge autocompletes? You move on to the next quest. Easy peasy.

Seriously, from what I can see, the only way you don’t complete Season 1 is if you don’t play.

The season challenges aren’t tied to the existing challenges really? And you basically have to play daily, especially if you’re starting now, because you’ll be about 3 weeks behind.

They are. But there are so many that the autocomplete bug, while a pain in the ass, doesn’t matter. The reason? Because autocomplete doesn’t impact all challenges. Just a few. And if they happen to be dailies or weeklies they will reset and be available again.

The problem is that this issue has been ongoing for the better part of a year. And you can start a challenge not be aware that it autocomplete.

I have very little interest in chasing daily/weekly achievements. But, as someone just playing the game and leveling up my characters it’s fun to see the occasional pop-up that I’ve won some fun little prize to spice up my post-apocalyptic day.

I’ve been really enjoying FO76 since Wastelanders came out and this whole system is frosting on the cake. I could see how this might drive completionists a bit crazy, but fortunately that’s not me.

Sad part is, I’m not even a completionist, but they did put some of the cosmetics and things I would like at the end of the track (naturally).

But yes, it’s a brutal schedule run by number crunchers who expect you to PvP for some of the hoops you need to jump through. Even Star Trek Online usually gives about a 33% slack (1 week out of three) where you don’t need to play, and it’s much much tighter here (don’t take a vacation or miss too many days out of 10 weeks). Another example of Bethesda doing something cool, then implementing it poorly.

Thanks for the write-up, didn’t realize they’d be trying to mitigate the effects of the autocomplete bug.

Technically the double XP weekend allows you progress a bit faster in the repeatable track that gives you 100 SCORE for every 10k XP.
