Warhammer: Return of Reckoning makes tweaks to RvR, quests, and abilities

The Warhammer Online rogue server Return of Reckoning has put out a fresh patch recently, which isn’t exactly full of jaw-dropping features but has lots of likely desired tweaks all the same.

For one thing, players should now only respawn in keeps that are safe and not at the outer door of a keep that’s under attack in RvR. Keeps will also now rank up when resources are turned in as long as the doors are at 89% health or above, while resources handed in below that point will go towards healing the door.

The patch has also tweaked where the /stuck command will spawn players during scenarios or city sieges, made some changes to Shadow Warrior abilities, improved certain Empire Chapter 20 quests, and included some interface adjustments among other things. The patch notes tell the complete story.

Is crafting working? That was pretty much the only thing still missing last time I played.

As far as I know yes. Crafting isn’t my thing but from what I have read on chat in game it does sound like it is working. Also I buy crafted stuff off the auction house all the time. I don’t know if everything works but the most important bits certainly appear to work, like potions and talismans.

Hello Sleepy! Yes crafting works decently and adjustments/bug reports are being handled daily.

For anyone playing: Is it worth it in the current state? Got some time off and considering dipping back in, it’s been ages since I last played.

While I can’t say how the late game is, there were a surprising number of players in the starting zones when I played around a month ago. The worst technical issue I ran into was 1 quest, out of 50+, wasn’t working properly.

That ain’t bad at all, guess I’ll be diving back in a bit!

It’s the only alternative you have to play.

Just a heads-up: The devs are competent, but they’re extremely thin-skinned. If your main class ends up nerfed for whatever reason, a lot of the answers are passive-aggressive.

It’s definitely worth playing. Basically everything important works from start all the way to end game. There are system and balance debates and good dev decisions and bad dev decisions. So the usual that you get with any MMO.

You might remember this but Warhammer Online is a bit counter-intuitive in what you should do and there is no tutorial for it. The game guides you to doing quests but you really shouldn’t. It’s important to keep your renown rank no lower than your career rank. So it’s a PvP game from the start. Personally I don’t level with regular quests at all and only do public quests when my renown is far enough ahead from doing PvP.

Hello Greaterdivinity!

The game is in a great shape at the moment. We’ve recently adjusting many RvR features such as the one mentioned in the article, we have added a custom dueling zone and we keep on updating the game with patches every single week.

Also, Twitch Drops will be enabled starting from Friday 31 July. We want to start August in a really nice way!

This patch is more bad than good. Without being able to respawn you don’t even bother with the outer walls as it just risks losing numbers for the inner. Melee classes also can’t really do anything for risk of dying. Overall it just makes defending less viable and fun.

Now the upside is that zones move faster so it’s probably great for gear farming.

Hey Traja! Thanks for your feedback. We’re gathering numerous other feedback while this patch is live. Many players have asked for it, in an effort to trigger more City Instances (as you said, for more gear progression).

We are always keen on implementing new updates that are suitable to the player-base, although satisfying more than 2/3 of it is impossible for any MMO. Hence why we keep on patching stuff every week in order to adjust and improve.

Its a shame this game has had to do so many “work arounds” to get it to mostly function.

I especially was annoyed with how npcs would vanish and reappear when you took quests from them.

Lots of older graphic rendering that doesnt play nice with newer video drivers either. Activating certain visual effect buffs have a nice box transparency placed around your character that blocks out player/npc names and other effects.

Still, the game is very playable.

Makes sense tho, the game isn’t maintained in any official fashion. It’s literally just a bunch of fans who felt so strongly about the game that they’re doing what they have to do in order to keep it going, even if it is held together with duct tape.

While I sometimes wonder what WAR could have been like if it had succeeded, I get my Warhammer fix from Vermintide now.
