Star Citizen shows off the creation of FPS weapons in a developer livestream

Whether in a ship or on foot in FPS combat, players and NPCs in Star Citizen will get shot at with a variety of fascinating weapons. Handheld weaponry was the focus of the latest developer livestream, which brought on members of the game’s weapons content team to talk about how they realize the variety of guns in the sandbox.

The stream focused on a barrel-fed pump-action shotgun and the new sniper rifle that was previewed in the last Star Citizen Live video. The devs first start with a high-poly render that is then manually adjusted to require less polygons in order for the weapon to run in-game. That said, each weapon still has a number of fine details that are considered in order to ensure each weapon can stand up to any intense scrutiny. The stream also offered another look at the tech being used to show off wear on weapons.

It’s not a particularly incredible livestream in terms of being told anything new necessarily, but for those who like to join in on these close looks at how CIG does things, it’s likely interesting. For those folks, we’ve got the embed below.

Cool. A weapon. Something never seen in MMOs before.

Well not like this we haven’t. All those big corporate studios only make shallow boring weapons. This … this is the Epic Weapon of Independent Studio of Awesomeness!

Their variety and the in-game lore for their different arms dealers is cool. But I really feel like they’re trying to focus on *everything*.

If the game launched with just a single side arm and a single rifle, I’m guessing 95% of the player base would be just fine.

This 95% is just speculation based of your own interest or understanding.

SC is about space ships of course but also Ground vehicles and FPS.

To put in perspective while not pretending SC is equal to Battlefield, each BF sold around 8 millions units which mean a fraction of those millions people will definitively be interested.
You must provide multiple options through individual or zone effect weapons of all types. Also compared to a multi-crew ship, making handguns, rover or even tank is much more simple.

At the end, you make the all game more attractive while giving also more activities to space ship lovers with transport, air to air or air to ground fight with consequences on the economy but also tactics and global strategy to invade or defend moons/planets vs human (NPC’s + players) and Aliens.

I wonder how much more money this got them. This feels like such a non-factor to me, but it must get them money since they do it.

Finish the god damn game already.
