Star Citizen Live discusses future updates, weapons, and features for FPS gameplay

What’s next for shooting people with your handheld weaponry in Star Citizen? That was the subject of the latest weekly developer roundtable which brought on Jonny Jacevicius and Chris Parry to talk about upcoming features that are in the works for the game’s FPS combat.

With the addition of less-lethal damage like melee stuns and electron stuns via the recently released electronic weapons, the next step is to introduce a taser for some more close range non-lethal takedown options, along with throwable shields and decoys as well as a throwable shield item; the taser has no timetable for release, while the throwables are expected to be worked on at some point next year.

The devs are also working on better ways to reload and share ammo, as well as improvements for player trading and personal inventory systems. The team is also looking at ways to make the firing range accessible to players, plans to include exotic weapons at some point down the line, and would like to add other unique weapons such as laser grapples, EMP grenades, and flamethrowers. That said, don’t expect to have akimbo weapons, as the addition is “complicated” by the game’s reloading mechanics — presumably, CIG refuses to do the N64 GoldenEye thing of having player hands lower off-screen and then raise with reloaded guns.

Those are mostly the highlights, but you can watch the complete hour’s worth of FPS systems discussion in the embed after the break.
