Shadow Arena’s latest roster addition is the swift and dexterous ninja Sura

You know what Shadow Arena needs? More ninjas! This was likely said by someone while banging fists on the table, and that noise has been heard and answered by the devs of the Black Desert MOBA spinoff with the addition of Sura.

Sura is described as a particularly daring melee combatant who counters his low defense with sheer attack power and cunning techniques. Sura does all the things that gaming ninjas do like unleashing katana strikes and thrown kunai weapons, dodging attacks, and even healing himself when doing damage. For those who are looking for a risky yet stylish combatant, then Sura is likely your man.

In addition, there’s now a weekly tryout format for the Regional Cup that will be running for three weeks starting today, September 7th. Those who join in on these tryouts and earn at least fifth place will earn some rewards, and those who manage to make it to first place will receive 500,000 Korean won (about $420 USD) and make their way to the Regional Cup finals. If you’d rather watch things unfold can do so via Twitch or YouTube.

Pearl Abyss seem to be handling BDO pretty well with the game with 30 day avg steam reviews at 80% (I remember not long ago when that number struggled to stay above 60), so why is this game only hitting 75-300 concurrent users depending on time of day with recent reviews at 57%?

The odds are stacked against Shadow Arena being a battle royale AND going for the BDO and BDM crowd. Both playerbases are pretty dug in and I doubt either one would be willing to stop playing their game to play this. For me, I just casually play when I feel like dabbling, but that’s time I could be grinding it out in BDO.

Usually when you look at reviews for a game with that low ratings people can agree on what’s wrong, but the only flaw I can see people agree on is lack of players. A lack of players is an effect, not a cause.

If only we could play Shadow Arena inside of Black Desert….

Shadow Arena is Black Desert’s combat system that was designed and tweaked for South Korea. That means everyone is on super internet and is all relatively close by so it all just works with no issues (and supposedly feels great). However when you’re now connecting from halfway across the United States things get fucked pretty fast and moves you see yourself as hitting don’t register because of the desync. It’s frustrating and annoying to lose in a competitive game because of technical issues and there’s really nothing they can do to fix it.

The whole thing is boondoggle that they should have just kept in the base game and instead focused those resources on addressing hackers and cheaters that dominated the game mode in Black Desert (and still do).
