World of Warcraft: Shadowlands prepatch is up now on the game’s background downloader

Nah, you're gonna make it, buddy!

If you are one of the many, many people who were ready for World of Warcraft’s current expansion to be over and done with on August 15th, 2018, the past couple of months have no doubt been interminable. But the good news is that the pre-patch for Shadowlands has drawn as close as it can to release without… you know, releasing. It’s now available for background downloading, something that generally indicates the patch date is approaching at notable speed.

We still don’t have a solid release date, as Blizzard has not yet offered the usual warning that the current PvP season is ending (which is usually around two weeks but can be shorter); speculation is that the pre-patch is most likely to come out on either September 29th or October 6th. That would allow for the pre-expansion event to broadly run the right duration while also giving space for the end-of-season announcement either this week or next. With the expansion on deck for launch on October 27th, the time left in Battle for Azeroth can now comfortably be measured in months… or in download times, if you’d prefer.
