Star Wars: The Old Republic will be adding a new tier of augments with its next update

The tippy-top end of power in Star Wars: The Old Republic is due to change with the release of update 6.1.4 according to an announcement post made by design director Chris Schmidt, which explains that there will soon be a new tier of augments for players to chase.

These new augments will require materials from both Master Mode Operations and Ranked PvP, so players who want to build these new augments are either going to have to dive in to both PvE and PvP activities or take advantage of the Galactic Market to buy materials from others. Ultimately, the rationale for adding these new augments is to let any PvE guilds climb over the hump of previous Operations a bit faster and make some interest in Group Ranked PvP happen.

These new augments are due to arrive soon to the game’s PTS, but for now the forum post offers a few more specifics on materials and where to find them.

I play Star Wars: The Old Republic for the story content.

At the end of the day, PvP and Operations have largely become yet another form of grind meant to fill time. I wouldn’t play them regularly if EA paid me to do so.

Cheap trick to force people to keep running the existing content for longer, because new content of those types isn’t coming yet.

A lot of noise was made about the lack of these augments when the rest of the gear was upgraded, now we know why they did it.

I’d rather be sold insurance for 5 hours than do ranked PvP. The game is horribly balanced in 4v4 environments and just ends up with a few FOTM DPS classes banging their head against a wall until time expires.

Sounds like MMO PvP all right.

Orrrr… I can just ignore them. Even if I did start playing again I have no desire to do Operations, and way less than none at all to do PVP. The flipside of the “Solo players should have sucky gear because you only *need* the best gear to do raids” is that since I don’t EVER intend to raid, I don’t have to grind for better gear. That doesn’t stop me from resenting the devs for locking the best gear behind content I hate though.

I can only imagine what they’ll cost. Current ones on my server go between 12 to 16 million.

I really hate it when devs try to force pvp on pve players just to get upgrades (or vice versa). Even tho we will be able to buy the mats it still leaves me a bitter man.

My first sentiment isnt swtor specific. There are plenty if examples in mmos where one has no choice but to do certain content in order to get power upgrades. And being able to buy mats from players isnt an optimal option when the prices will be out of reach from the common player.
