One Shots: Unholy abominations

We may view them as horrible monsters who are standing between us and our precious loot, but have you ever considered life — such as it is — from their perspective? Nobody finds them desirable, they’re forced to live in dank places, and imminent death comes rushing at them from every corner. Have pity on the abomination.

Minimalistway shared this forlorn soul from World of Warcraft, saying, “I think it’s beautiful. The end boss of this dungeon looks like a mass of death and decay. Taking screenshot for it before the fight is better, as at least you can see some details.”

“This is what happens when a few hundred players converge on a single area in FFXIV (Ishgard Restoration), and they all have to wait 30 minutes for the event to actually start,” posted Scott. “This began as a Dance party, but everyone decided to use their ‘charmed’ emotes and turned it into a rave!”

Lucky Jinx shared a place where no death is allowed: “If we are getting morbidly cool corpses, then let’s have some beauty too with this picture in the Emerald Dreamway.”

Who’s gonna mow that lawn, is all I’m wondering. I can picture some Druid gardener puttering back and forth on his John Deer. Vrooom.

Utakata posted a picture of a dead city from Blade and Soul, adding, “All mobs around this ‘biome’ are not exactly alive, but all deceased mobs insta-dissipate in the respective game.”

Self-dissolving corpses, leaving only the fresh scent of pine behind! So considerate.

We were a little low on submissions this past week, so that means I have to subject you to the HORROR and TERROR that is a pick from my own screenshots folder. My submission today is from Guild Wars 2, showing a starry oasis in the midst of Path of Fire.

That’s it for this week, but the fun continues in the comments! Share some of your best or most notable screenshots from your MMO gaming, along with a story or description.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

Star Trek Online is touting this as “The Year of the Klingon” in their game, and indeed, the most-recent storyline that’s currently underway focuses on what’s happening in the Klingon Empire in 2410 — and it’s definitely more than it appears at first glance.

So, I’ve been trying to play my Klingon alt and crew more regularly, and bring them through endgame during this appropriate time.

Here’s the command crew of the I.K.S. L’Rell posing with their shiny, shiny disruptor weapons: Gorn Chief of Security Sesk; Lethean Intelligence Officer Eibron; my Klingon captain; Orion Chief Engineer Burrux; and Ferasan Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mol.

They’d all say “hi”, but I believe that being overtly friendly is still considered a felony in the Klingon Empire … :-)

Cheers!

Lots and lots of Isle of Siptah in Conan Exiles. Pretty much all we’ve done all week.

I haven’t been taking a lot of screenshots lately. I tried during LotRO’s summer festival(s), but wasn’t happy with the results – they weren’t composed well.

Here’s a couple of recent ones from STO. First is Governor Hannah Welch’s current flagship, the Buran-class U.S.S. Arica, in orbit over South Asia. I don’t know how often people fly around to the the far side of Earth from Spacedock. I remember the dark side being… well… darker. Also, North Korea used to be devoid of city lights, which struck me as an odd intrusion of modern geopolitics on the future-fiction. It has the same lights as anywhere else now.

The second image is Captain Ralph Etrange’s privateering ship, the Black Swan, answering a Romulan distress call in the Terrh system. I don’t particularly enjoy fighting Elachi, but I keep coming back for the wintry palette of the system. This patrol also puts to use some of the old asteroid-base pieces we used to see a lot of when the game shipped – the big cranks and pistons animating. Cryptic doesn’t use those often anymore.

First and second, there is a death knight looming above the lands of Zandalar, heeding the faint call of Northrend– it’s almost time– almost time to leave this land behind and return to North. Finally.

Third, there’s a mage sitting quietly on his fire hawk upon one of the many structures of Dazar’alor, hearing the same call as the death knight, but there is no eagerness burning at the back of his mind. There’s just worry– worry over what is to come next.

A few random screenshots I’ve taken in the last few months. One of a construct in Black Desert that I thankfully only had to talk to, not fight, and the other is yet another shot of Duilond at night from LoTRO. The beauty of the elven towns of Ered Luin at night always makes me want to screenshot them.

Nothing notable, just a few screenshots from ESO.

Much like my Siamese cat Siren, Siren in ESO has to be in the middle of everything including War Councils.

Wouldn’t want to leave Justin hanging, so here are some extra submissions!

Even after all these years I still feel like a tourist passing by, taking screenshots and only occasionally participating in events with the local community in Guild Wars 2! For example, I still can’t get enough of Labyrinthine Cliffs’ views!

For a map called “The Desolation” in Path of Fire, I really didn’t expect such views! But as a tourist, what do I know!

And of course, Zommoros’ invitation for a private tour of the Mystic Forge is a tourist trap!

Well, that’s the life of a tourist!

edit: order of these last 4 screenshots got scrambled :/

Even more tripped out in motion! XD

…the rug gets pulled out under your trip with a raid requirement though. Kinda like a warehouse party you were venturing to gets blocked out by riot police on the scene. /bleh

And that’s why I called it a “tourist trap” in the first place! XD
