Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen offers a look at the Dire Lord class in a livestream

The upcoming Dire Lord class for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen got its time in the spotlight in the most recent developer livestream, but first the devs brought on to the broadcast talked about the recent pre-alpha 5 shakeout tests, discussing things that the tests let them complete.

The remainder of the stream went all in on the Dire Lord class, breaking down the class’ mechanics and gameplay. The Dire Lord has abilities that help it recover health like a passive that regenerates health the lower its HP gets and a primary attack that heals when it hits, as well an the class’ primary taunt ability. The stream also took a look at the Masteries for some of the abilities. The Dire Lord also has Blood States, which are effectively different stances it can take, and has an ability that make it an effective tank against magic-using foes.

For those who are eager to see the new Dire Lord in action, there’s about an hour’s worth of footage to take in below, just be warned that the devs’ microphones are not well balanced, so if you’re using headphones, you might want to turn down your volume for the first 10 minutes or so.

If they manage to deliver the gameplay and features and the spirit of MMO they promised, I could not care less for any graphic prettiness. It can come later.

I watched the video and the graphics in this game looks like it was made in early 2000’s. Definitely not my cup of tea, especially seeing what the new Nvidia’s and upcoming AMD’s cards are capable of and seeing evolution of engines like Unreal Engine and evolution of custom engines in Korean and Japanese MMORPGs. And it’s not only graphics – the combat and abilities also looks like some extremely old and generic game. I know some people would still be happy with this, especially old people, but I really don’t see this game becoming popular, and popularity is also something I care about because if I wanted to play in an empty world – I would just keep playing a single-player RPG game.

If I was responsible for leading the company which develops Pantheon – I would immediately cancel it to prevent more losses through more sinking of money into project which has no future and would let all my employees go work for companies which have a chance of producing successful games in future, like CCP (the company responsible for producing EVE Online) or Intrepid Studios or Square Enix or CD Projekt Red or even ZeniMax now that MS has purchased them and since they still actively looking for employees.

It’s a game intentionally aimed at the old school MMO crowd, so it definitely sounds like you’re not the target audience at all. I’m sure they’ll take your advice to cancel it and dissolve the company seriously though.

I don’t know why you have a need to repeat what I have already said in the reply to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t expect them to do anything based on my subjective opinion.

It’s a graybox testing environment in this video, not what the game will actually look like. They have done streams within a non-graybox state if you want to see the actual visual design.

Sorry, I still can’t see the name of the game without immediately trying to create variations on the word salad title. “Fall of the Risn.” “Purity of the Unclean.” “Light of the Darkness.” “Redemption of the Forsaken.” OnO

It’s corny but it’s not really a contradiction. They fell, and now they’re rising again.

One of the few upcoming MMOs that have me absolutely excited & confident that they will release a decent product on release. I know they’ve had to deal with the absolutely tragic passing of Brad but all more of a reason I have faith in the team and how they will honor him by completing the game.

That said, it also makes me so elated to see so many skills available to the Dire Lord. MMORPGs nowadays, in my opinion, have been so stripped of strategic skills in place of simplifying everything for casual players. Minimizing the amount of skills, action bar choices, etc.

Graphics look great, sans the placeholder trees in the background of the video.

This is one of the few MMOs that had me excited, but less so as the years have gone on, at a new low right now due to the current state of the game and lack of funding to get it to where it needs to be.

In order for this game to come out before Star Citizen, they’re going to need an influx of cash to get more devs hired on, or cut a bunch of content. Low hopes. RIP Brad.

Have they publicly announced this or is this something the community has been speculating? Any sources? I wasn’t able to find anything myself.

They got their series 1 funding which was enough to get started, but not finish. That’s why the Faerthale vertical slice to get the second round, but so far it hasn’t happened.

I only watched a couple of minutes scattered through but was very disappointed by the state of the graphics. Then I pulled up a random Pantheon vid from 2016 and things looked much prettier there.

Graybox environment. Here is a June 2020 stream that shows the non-graybox testing visuals.
