Fallout 76 invites players to jump on to the test server to build Shelters

It’s almost time to head underground in Fallout 76 when it comes to building Shelters. This is the next major feature arriving for the game’s C.A.M.P. system, allowing players access to underground spaces from a small utility space to a massive atrium. Players are encouraged to come try out the system on the game’s test server and to explore all of the options, with all three Shelter sizes available right from the start and free of charge to experimental builders.

When the system actually goes live (which is planned to be this year), players will have to first unlock Shelters via a quest and purchase the larger sizes via Atoms or subscription, but on the test server it’s all free to try out. And the developers want people to take advantage of that fact, with players able to earn a free pennant for taking part in stress testing and building through October 4th. Players will still be able to test Shelters even after the focused testing period, though; this is just a particularly opportune time to give a solid effort at building your own underground dwelling.

Sounds good and everything, but..

WHERE ARE MY TRIANGLE/WEDGE FOUNDATIONS AND PIECES?! C’mon, even GROUNDED has wedge foundations!

I’ve played a lot of building /survival games after finding out that apparently that’s my thing, and I really believe that wedge foundations should just be something you HAVE to have if you want to do this genre.

I read somewhere that they were planning on removing the penalty for hunger and thirst, and replacing it with a buff for eating and drinking. Is that so and if so is there any idea when that will happen?

Yup, they intend to remove the negative effects of not eating / drinking so no more ap loss etc while keeping the buff part of the equation if you do consume food / drinks. It was supposed to come with One Wasteland but afaik know didn’t even make it on to the pts testing.

I haven’t seen anything beyond some speculation that it might be part of patch 23 scheduled for Oct 13. If it doesn’t show up on the pts then I would imagine it’s coming with the Steel Dawn patch, whenever that is released.

I don’t think it was one of the things mentioned as being pushed back to 2021 so all being well we should get that before the end of the year, hopefully.

When this hits live one shelter will be free to everyone, one will be exclusive to Fallout 1st members for one month then will be on the shop for atoms with the third atrium one going on the shop from day one of the patch being on the live server.

I am happy everyone will get access to a free one that way folks can see if it’s something they like without having to spend money first.

I also don’t think there is anything wrong with the two paid ones either and see it exactly like ESO housing. They are nice to have if you want them but you can completely ignore them too. Hopefully the free Fallout 76 one is a bit bigger than the broom cupboard ESO gives its players, hehe.

my only problem with it is that it’s one aesthetic which might not be what you want. if it was a blank space you could decorate as you see fit that would be better.

Or at least if you could have one that was open air or in a cave or something for a natural look.

I don’t think they are blank spaces but have boundary wall fitting the theme, in this case a vault. I don’t have access to the pts so I could be wrong.

I can understand not liking the asthetic of the vault set. I was hoping for a mine based one as my mains camp is set up virtually next to one. Still it’s not unreasonable to think that if these work well we could get other sets in the future much like ESO does with houses.

It probably won’t happen but it would be super cool if they always offered the “small” one as a free taster so folks could see if they like a sets asthetic without having to part with atoms first.

Time will tell I guess.
