Betawatch: Torchlight III leaves early access to release on October 13

ahhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

At long last, we know when Torchlight III (nee Frontiers) is launching. It’s October 13th! Isn’t that exciting? There are also outlined plans for how the head start access is going to work, as well. So we’ll finally be bidding a farewell to it on our testing lists, and then it will just be a released game people can hopefully enjoy. How marvelous!

Further marvels have occurred in beta-land! Or possibly not.

What is not surprising is the fact that we have a list full of games in current testing just below, and as we do every week, we invite you to take a look through it. It’s also not a surprise that we ask you to let us know if one of the surprises found therein is a game that has skipped ahead in testing without us noticing.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.

Kind of feel sorry for the Torchlight folks.

Through no fault of their own, Oct 13 probably not the best date to be launching.
