Path of Exile begins the process of improving heists with its latest update

6

The devs of Path of Exile know that the titular heists of its recent League could use a bit of improvement, and with the most recent patch update, they seek to do just that.

This latest patch introduces tweaks that should make heists shorter like reducing the maximum length of a Heist in higher level areas and the number of Heist Job Doors along the path to the primary objective, and makes changes to make things more rewarding like improving the goodies in reward room chests and having may reward room chests now drop their respective Scarabs.

Additionally, the patch makes a variety of other tweaks to heist mechanics and fixes several bugs, and also fixes a couple of abilities and introduces a sizeable list of general bug fixes. Like every other series of patch notes from PoE, these notes go deep, so sneaky filchers will especially want to get a look at what’s coming.

This beta seems to be taking longer than usual. If it weren’t for that damned cat pet I wouldn’t even bother with this league at all. I haven’t really started, but damn them for adding one of their best pets ever to league progression for a convoluted, annoying league.

They really need to not try to do the most mechanically complex leagues they’ve ever done with half the team working on POE 2. This has been kinda a shitshow.

At this point I have given up the game is unplayable in its current iteration on the PS4. It’s not a case of if it will crash but when and while I have done my best to mitigate the frustration this causes it time to step away.

I might take another look in a month to see if it’s better but for now it’s just not worth wasting my time on it and certainly not any money /sigh

They’ve been heading down this path for a while now, which is unfortunate. They are married to a 13-week dev cycle while attempting to make leagues that take 20 weeks to develop, and the game has been suffering for it. I would say Bestiary is when the cracks really started to show, and each following league has been progressively worse. At this rate, I expect PoE 2 to launch as a convoluted mess.

Honestly, I expect POE 2 to be pretty good…I imagine they’re putting more of their experienced staffers on that project. I just expect all the leagues leading up to it to be as arduous and mechanically tedious as the past few.

I wish I shared your optimism as PoE is one of my most played games, but only a small fraction of those hours have been in the past 2 years. I’ll still keep my eye on it, because deep down I want it to be good, but their track record has been going from bad to worse.
