It’s that time once more, when Final Fantasy XIV fans have scoured trademark registrations to discover the title of the next FFXIV expansion! After all, we all know it’s happening and it’s around the same time. And sure enough, a registration has turned up for “Forspoken,” which places it within the right timeframe for registration and at the proper length and general sound of prior expansion titles (Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers). Notably, “forspoken” is an actual word of Scottish origin, which refers to someone who has been charmed or ensorcelled.
Obviously, there’s space for that to mean all sorts of things, though the presence of Matoya’s Relict in patch 5.4 would lend some credence to an expansion involving Old Sharlayan (a center of magical knowledge). Of course, at this point it is all still just a rumor; we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to be sure, which will almost certainly give a clearer picture of where players are headed. For now, though, it’s just a rumor.
Even though it’s almost definitely true because it has been the last three times.
