Destiny 2 shares the details of its console upgrades for the new PlayStation and Xbox

The next generation of Destiny 2 is almost here! No, that doesn’t mean a new title in the franchise; it means that with the release of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S, there’s a new generation of consoles to play the game on. That also means new improvements to the software’s performance on console versions, which are detailed in a new post on the official site.

About the only substantive difference is that the Xbox Series S will only support 1080p resolution, while both the Series X and PlayStation 5 offer 4k support. Consoles will also offer field-of-view customization and some optimization will be done for load times. It’s also important to note that the game will be cross-generational, so PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players will be sharing the same servers. If you’re eager to play the game on your shiny new console, it’s worth checking out the improvements.

And if you’re going to question why someone would play an old game on a new console, please note the last time you loaded an old game on a new PC.

This is a big reason I’m looking forward to my Xbox Series X, because I really hate the load times right now playing on it with Destiny 2 on my Xbox One S. Already seen a few vids testing the current version of the game on Xbox Series X and the load times were about on par with what I get here on my PC. While I won’t get the 144 frames I have on PC, even going up to 60 is a welcome boost as well.

The “having no new games” argument has always seemed really weird to me. I buy PC components or a new PC all the time without a specific game to take advantage of it. I just enjoy the fact that all my current games I was playing will just be straight up better on newer hardware. It’s nice that consoles are transitioning towards the same thing and I look forward to titles like No Man’s Sky and Destiny 2 with just better performance when I wanna kick my feet up and relax.

Xbox Series S will only support 1080p resolution

That’s…disappointing. I’d have expected them to be able to push it to 2K and upscale from there.
