Lord of the Rings Online tests a major PvP monster play balance pass

Lord of the Rings Online’s unique PvP scene — which is called PvMP or “monster play” — is one of the more underdeveloped and underpopulated parts of the game, a fact which makes its players touchy and starved for love. They better prepare themselves for a big, hairy hug, then, because Update 28.2 is finally bringing a host of changes and improvements to that scene.

The patch, which is currently on the test realm, is centered around a PvMP balance pass, including “major changes to how monster player stats are wired up behind the scenes to make them advance more consistently with player stats when we level bump or generally restat the game, AND to allow us to easily give Creeps incremental ratings bumps to keep pace with player itemization over the course of a full level cap cycle.”

It will also help Creeps (monster characters) scale their damage and health to match the latest level of regular player gear with each new patch.

The game is also releasing a smaller update today to fix an issue with mission timers and help Beornings not walk around as if they were constantly drunk on honey mead.

If you were to do a list of “10 best things in an mmorpg that for some reason never caught on” the Moors would certainly be on that list.

Whoa, never expected to hear about this again. I used to play this mode a ton way back when. But holy hell was it imbalanced, and ALWAYS favored the good guys balance wise, we had to outnumber them 2 to 1 at times to have a chance of winning. Eventually gave up on it when it was apparent that the game mode had been completely abandoned by the developers, and had no chance of ever being even remotely balanced.

Played PvMp around 2008.
It was frustrating as hell… As creep ofc.
No balance, no players on creep side… We were owned 24/7.
Ragequited after few months.

My daughter was thrilled yesterday when she heard about this. She is a long-time PvMP player and so any attention they get is a BIG deal. Happy for her, but wish they would have given this part of the game more love over the years because even if it wasn’t the most popular part of the game, it was still at one time a fun way to pass the time after raiding or on a slow night even if it was never perfect. Neglect ran most people away, but still there’s action on some servers with loyal diehards who have kept on doing it through the years. Also, it could have been monetized which is something SSG seems to love so it’s beyond me why they never did more with the store over there. Players would easily pay good $$ for cosmetics or even races. Goblins have been something players have asked for, for years now.
