World of Warships celebrates Veterans Day with missions and charity drives

It’s Veterans Day here in the US and Remembrance Day in some European countries and commonwealth countries around the world. It’s a day when each country honors its military veterans, tracing all the way back to the end of the First World War. So as governments and families are celebrating their vets, so are video games – including the more military-centric MMOs like World of Warships.

Wargaming put together a whole slate of events and updates in keeping with the occasion, including the The End of World War I missions, the Veterans Day mission, and notes for the 0.9.11 and 0.9.12 updates, which will add new battleships and New Year festivities. There’s also a Remembrance charity drive.

“We’re proud to announce our special Remembrance Day 2020 charity drive. Until November 23 at 5:00 UTC, you can purchase four different bundles in the Premium Shop featuring the iconic symbol of remembrance. 100% of the benefits from the sale of these bundles will be donated to the Help for Heroes charity, who help veterans and members of the UK Armed Forces get the aid and support they need and so deserve. […] 2020 has been a difficult year for us all, but on this Remembrance Day, we ask that you take a moment to think of our veterans and members of the Armed Forces and their families. Every year, thousands of servicepeople struggle with mental health issues and social isolation, so the inherent hardships of the pandemic have done nothing more than add to the heavy burden they already carry. Help for Heroes aims to improve the morale of our veterans by helping them to stay socially active and positive.”

That’s not the only charity event the World of Warships community has contributed to this month; during a recent stream, players raised almost $5000 for the Wounded Warrior Project during Virtual Fleet Week. Nice work, folks.
