Star Citizen talks about the Nomad, the IAE free fly event, and player shenanigans in alpha 3.11

There’s a whole gaggle of stuff coming out of Star Citizen today, the headliner of which is the start of the free fly event and its promise of over 100 flyable ships as part of the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo. A post on the game’s website explains how it works, the dates when each manufacturer will be on the show floor, and what ships will be available. As usual, the free fly event effectively makes Star Citizen free-to-play and grants every account an Origin 100i starter ship as a loaner. The Expo runs between now and Wednesday, December 2nd.

On the subject of the Expo, this week’s Inside Star Citizen video talks a bit about how the dev team put together the show floor for this year’s IAE from a design perspective and grants players a look at the new Nomad starter ship and its various features (basically think of it as a space pickup truck).

Finally, CIG has written a postmortem of alpha 3.11, elaborating on things it did to make missiles, chaff, and flares more interesting ahead of their upcoming reworks, going into a nearly excessive level of detail regarding planet generation tech and a breakdown of several core gameplay elements and updates. Of note in this post are discussions about how force reactions in ships should have taken into account a ship’s personal gravity field, and some player shenanigans related to the change in the Armistic system such as players using the cargo holds of the 890 Jump to scoop up Sentinel ships and fly off with them or overrunning a rest stop and holding it for a long time in spite of security and defense response.
