A Secret World Legends fan has created a huge (free!) graphic novel based on the lore

There is no doubt that Secret World Legends (and its predecessor) have developed a strong cult following in the MMORPG community due to its captivating conspiracies and wonderful world-building. It’s a universe in which players enjoy dwelling, often taking their fandom to creative heights.

Such is the case for HolloPoint, who crafted a lengthy graphic novel called Nine Swords Evolution using Secret World Legends’ images, setting, and lore. Cautioning that the novel does contain some spoilers for the in-game stories, HolloPoint posted the whole beast on the forums for free for anyone to enjoy.

“In any event, this was a major step up from the previous novels and I may have to go through them and update… in a year or so,” the author said. “All in all it was a lot of fun to do and I hope you enjoyed it!”

Was just discussing TSW with a friend and one of the overarching qualities that the game had (aside from cinematically-good voice direction, performance, and cutscenes) was that contrary to so many MMOs it felt very much like it HAD A DAMNED STORY IN MIND FROM THE BEGINNING.

It may not, in fact, have had one. But it FELT like it was all knitted together into a cohesive whole in a way that (for example) WoW just is this constant stream of kludgy retcons (Pandas have always been here, haven’t they?) and ‘winging it’ each expansion.

It may have been the James Dean effect: SWL inherited the mantle and – imo – doesn’t feel like it inherited the cohesiveness.

It’s so achingly sad the combat and performance and models were garbage :/ The story and writing were decent, and it was SO DAMNED NICE to play an MMORPG that wasn’t aimed at the “age 10-20” crowd for a change. I’d give my left arm for a good Lovecraftian MMORPG.

Alas :p SW had the writing and theme down perfectly, but the rest of it was -real- bad.
