20 years is an absolute triumph for any MMORPG to hit, and Jagex is planning on marking its 20th anniversary in a big way. Starting today, both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape are going to kick off an entire year-long program of anniversary-themed content and special commemorative goodies to collect in real life.

It all starts with RuneScape’s Grand Party, bringing back a number of memorable NPCs from the game’s history as well as area buffs and collectable in-game rewards like the 20th Anniversary Cape and Outfit. There will also be a four-part quest that begins on January 25th and set to run for the entire year, which promises to reference RuneScape’s past and present, and even hint at its future. In addition, the Elder Gods story arc will also kick off in 2021.

Over in Old School, January 6th will bring on the Green Gnome Child event, a trek through the original haunts of RuneScape to unlock the Realm of Memories and battle with demons and dragons, with a 20th Anniversary Cloak and a Gnome Child dedication for player-owned home chapels waiting as rewards at the end. This content will also be running through the entire year.

Finally, there’s commemorative meatspace goodies for RuneScape fans to look forward to, with the arrival of an illustrated history hardcover companion book due in the second half of the year, a vinyl pressing of the Original Soundtrack Classics album, a limited-edition Tutorial pin badge, and a number of other goodies coming to the merch store over the course of 2021.
