Final Fantasy XI adds new Odyssey bosses for weapon upgrades

Another version update has arrived to Final Fantasy XI, and it brings with it a new chance to upgrade your weapons! Yes, you can make your arsenal even stronger and more capable of dealing death. The downside is that you can only make these further upgrades by taking on the new Odyssey bosses in Sheol: Gaol, with successful battles earning currency used to upgrade equipment and special records being earned when you defeat each boss for the first time.

Despite what the patch notes say, players posting in the official digest thread have noted that players can indeed summon Trust companions in the battlefields, meaning that this content can be done solo for rewards. (Unity Accord leaders do not seem to be present on the Trust list for some reason, however.) There are also new Ambuscade upgrades and new improvements to the novice network as well, but the centerpiece is the new bosses for players to engage and defeat.

Sitting at a solid 150 hours played and still nowhere close to being able to do the things that get added and tweaked at endgame, but I’m getting there! Slowly but surely.

Not only is there a staggering amount of content in the game, but the managed to incentivise us to do all of it. It’s impressive how little content in the game that’s completely irrelevant

Definitely agree. What’s really surprised me a lot is how the expansion storylines actually run concurrently with one another. With the big final Rhapsodies of Vana’diel content, I figured it was a wrap-up that would spoil the stories of the expansions, but instead it actually adapts to the fact that I haven’t completed them yet, and no character acts like they’ve known my character or is where they shouldn’t be. It’s really impressive.

there are also quite a lot of unlocks behind the old content, and practically every single concept and worthwhile fight has a level 99 endgame version
