Path of Exile’s Echoes of the Atlas expansion launches this afternoon

Fixed.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind of a patch for Path of Exile, or at least it feels that way for players, as the expansion that was meant to hit in December was only just announced a week ago and is already upon us today.

Echoes of the Atlas is slated to launch later today at 2 p.m. EST, though servers have been down since 11 a.m. for patching – something you should tackle sooner rather than later as you’re looking at a 13GB update. Console players, settle in for your wait while the PC players test it for ya; your launch isn’t until January 20th.

As promised, the expansion includes the new Ritual challenge league, ascendancy class revamps, new Maven pinnacle boss, new passive skill trees, 11 new maps, and gobs more. Our own Wandering Wraeclast column has detailed everything you can expect – perfect reading while you patch up! We’re also aiming to stream the game around 3 p.m. EST if the servers can handle it, so join us then on OPTV.

GGG really needs to come up with an alternative way to level rather than each new league grinding through the horrible campaign. D3 really got it right when they allowed you to do multiple other things rather than play the story. I’m really surprised they haven’t added a pay to skip seeing that they are a f2p MTX game

The campaign takes like what, 5 hours? It’s not a big deal.

D3 allowing you to get to endgame in 10 minutes is the opposite of getting it right IMO. You can get every class to endgame within 2 hours if you have friends to power level you. It’s an absolute joke.

Man…spent the past few days trying to figure out a non-meta/fun build. Still may try my HoP Necromancer but feeling like it’s definitely not gonna be great or a good league starter.

Now I’m thinking a basic, boring Slayer, probably cyclone but can be easily changed. Leeching more HPS than you have max life sounds hilarious.

Just hoping the additional time paid off in terms of bugs etc. I’ll be waiting until this evening to jump in, and as much as I’m not looking forward to atlas progression and Jun unlocks, the new talent trees for the atlas seem juicy.

I’d go with a Guardian on a HoP build. I played one a couple leagues back. Certainly not meta or op, but it was fun as a hybrid melee/pet build.

I’ve done that before, but with the loss of the 30% damage buff from the Guardian tree I’m not sure if I want to try again. That and I generally try to not recreate a character I’ve already made (and had plenty of problems with the way my HoP/Dom Blow Guardian worked…Sirus was a bloody nightmare to the extreme).

It is a super fun build though. My standard league Dom Blow aurabot is a ton of fun. Decent-ish solo damage (losing some of that, sadly), strong aura support (nowhere near a dedicated aurabot with cluster jewels, but still good…and I avoided the aurabot nerfs for the most part!), and surprisingly bloody tanky (8K ES, 82%+ all ele res, 90% phys reduction, 40%+ block, like 30% evade, 1K energy leech and a ton of energy shield regen). Been actually playing him a fair amount lately just for funsies, can do decent in T14+ maps that aren’t juiced.

I just like HoP dudes a lot for some reason and want to find silly ways to make that work. Never tried with Necro, but even after the nerfs it still seems like there may be a way to make it workable.
