There’s a whole group of MMO players who have always fascinated me: the type who keep rerolling the same characters over and over. For example, in Guild Wars 2, there’s a slice of the population with dozens of character slots unlocked specifically so they can roll one character of every race and class combination, so they end up with a ton of characters of each class, which even with elite specs must play more or less the same each time. I bet there’s even somebody out there who’s done it for multiple genders and personal stories too. I used to never understand these folks. I’m way, way too lazy for that.
But then I remember City of Heroes, and… maybe I’m not too lazy for that. I have a list of powersets that I really love to play, and while I generally don’t duplicate them too much, I’m a real sucker for storm characters, and I’ve had probably a dozen of them over the years. Right now, I have three that I actually play and keep on rotation! So maybe I understand the urge after all.
Do you reroll the same MMO classes over and over?

No
I’m not an alt guy in general, usually just stick to a single main character. However, if I do roll an alt, it’s always in a different class, usually a different role too.
Yes. I try to build a ranged dps on every class possible. My tanks love to use bows and run speed. :)
I hate chasing my prey.
Since CC isn’t a viable spec or even a thing in modern gaming I usually always roll ranged dps (caster, ranger etc) or else I would CC tank on a mage.
I play all the classes. Which leads to too many alts. Which leads to no life. Which lead to health problems. Which lead to no game for a few months now except that which I watch someone else play. /sigh
But I do tend to prefer a few certain archetypes over others…
Hmm well rarely in the same game. I am not really into alts except for alternate classes/jobs. But across games? yes. Tanks and melee fighters, especially dual-wielders. What i do not make are rangedDPS, double-hander Melee and healers. I personally really don’t enjoy how those DPScalsses paly and healing…well, people tend to die when i try to hela :)
Absolute heaven for me so far was the Ninja in FFXI a few years ago. A dual-wield-melee that was used as a tank?? Best tiems ever.
Rarely. Sure, in CoH there were power sets I used multiple times, but never with the same combination of sets.
Depends on the game. I hve like 4 paladins in DDO because i can’t settle for a server and Paladins are just the best f2p starter class. I hate it tho, and i really wanna play a Cleric.
…when I run out of classes to play, yes. As there is no MMO out there that allows the player to make their own classes up on their own. So I have to go with the cards that I am dealt with if I want to roll another alt. :(
In the same one? Generally no…not unless there are super strict limitations that would prevent me from doing more than one thing without needing a second character.
Overall though…yeah, hell yeah. Paladin remains my preferred archetype, but pretty much anything tanky/healy is up my alley in just about any game.
I just like getting hit in the face while protecting some random pugs that I’m probably raging about for pulling extra mobs and not interrupting and being dumb. Yes, I know I’m a sadomasochist.
I’m close. I tend to only roll melee classes, and usually the generic warrior class (over say a rogue or something else). Though I do like just a touch of Magic. So that means a Beserker, Paladin, Shadow Knight, etc. If I can get a damage over time ability or a bleed even better.
I like picking the smallest race get a big 2H sword and go to town on those who write me off due to my size.
