Ashes of Creation plans a new website, 20 biomes, and February 19 milestone test

Super, good call.

The month of January is almost over, but there’s still some news to be heard from the devs of Ashes of Creation in the form of their monthly development update stream, which gives fans and backers a progress report on what’s being worked on and what’s coming next for the MMORPG.

In terms of updates, the team at Intrepid Studios is working on iterating on feedback from AOC’s last playtest as well as working on better hairstyles, reworking starter gear, and improving visuals like the water shader and world lighting. Speaking of the game world, the team is also working on a hilltops biome while the stream confirmed that the full game will feature 20 biomes in total.

As for the game’s next testing phase, the next milestone test for alpha one is set to begin on Friday, February 19th. Incidentally, alpha one packs could possibly return to the game store by the end of February, which is also the same month that the game’s website and cash shop will be updated.

After reading so many political articles with ‘AOC’…I’d forgotten this was also the same acronym…can’t wait for all the people to get mixed up over that one and the conspiracy theories implying she’s involved in this somehow…lol

Maybe you should stop following political news if this acronym is what you associate it with. I actively avoid any political crap on TV or on news sites or forums, my Twitter feed is only filled with streamers I watch, people who create art, cute cosplayers and people whom I met through watching streamers and as soon as I see anyone starting to retweet political crap – I unfollow them. So whenever I see “AoC” – I only think of either Ashes or Conan games, not political conspiracy theories.

Uninformed political opinions [and voting based on those] is part of the reason of why things are so fucked up, but sure, let’s pretend the real world doesn’t exist.

Uninformed political opinions

You don’t have to be obsessed with politics to the point of thinking of politicians and conspiracy theories in a thread about video game in order to stay fully informed or think in a rational way without blindly believing anything you hear. I know perfectly well about who is current president, what executive decisions he already signed and which ones he is planning to sign and why he did that as well as who currently represents my NYC district at the House of Representatives and what is she trying to achieve, without being obsessed about her to such point that I think of her when looking at the video game name or the monitor brand name.

Low information opinions are just as bad, if not worse, than uniformed political opinions because they pretend to be informed but they’re really just getting info from whatever echo chamber they decide to dwell in (Twitter, Reddit, etc) and don’t bother putting in any effort into research or figuring out the full picture/real story.

Way back in school, there was a class that taught various things related to history(I forget what it was called but it was a later class in the ‘social studies’ series, but it also started off every day with turning on the news, and writing a report about it/actively thinking about what was going on, and questioning what was being said.

To this day, I probably do way too much of it, but it also has helped to keep me from falling for a LOT of propaganda.

For a long time, I purposely watched ‘the other side’s’ viewpoint to try and figure it out/place myself in their shoes/try and figure out why they thought the way they do. (Even though they usually made my eyes practically roll into the back of my head with their poor logic or bored me to tears repeating circular thinking and refusing to ever step outside their box.)

I read Yahoo!’s front page, because even to this day, they still haven’t focused on one side or another (I purposely do not login, so they don’t know/cater the news to one side or the other, yes you can set things to view more/less of certain types…if logged in.). They give BOTH SIDES, and you can go through reading anything that catches your fancy, or makes you question things. (Or mindlessly zone out to tabloid nonsense if that’s your thing.)

I tended to not join ‘group fads’ like ‘My-space’ or ‘Twitter’ (I am way more verbose than the limited characters they used to have.) or ‘Instagram’ or other stuff like is popular nowadays…like ‘Tik Tok’ or ‘Snapchat’.

I usually played games myself, rather than watch em on something like ‘Twitch’, but lately I’ve begun watching some I’d never be able to play myself, but found fun. I have found a lot of very ‘stuck in their ways’ types of people, who can’t branch out, or refuse to. Many who are often just repeating something someone else said, as though it were a fact.

Now, it’s all well and good to not want to participate in that kind of stuff, to ‘veg out’/stay ‘zen’ (I myself have moments like that.), but when those types are literally threatening your own life/well-being nowadays, it’s definitely not something one should ignore and put on the back-burner for another time.

I literally have one of those ‘types’ that tried to storm the Capitol living beside me. No amount of talking to him will persuade him. He’s literally threatened me (With cops called) multiple times, and I’ve had to ‘be the bigger person’ and walk away (Turn my back upon him.) even when he’s snarly rage-facing at me and telling me ‘You don’t walk away from me!’. I know for a fact, he carries (He’s bragged about it, and during a recent storm, when we were out cleaning up, his pistol magazine dropped out of his gun and I FOUND it lying in the tree debris we were cleaning up.). So guess what, when he attempts to murder me, MY OWN FINGERPRINTS will be upon his magazine.

But please, tell me more about how I should ‘just ignore politics’ because they don’t effect me in any way whatsoever because I read the news…

I literally have one of those ‘types’ that tried to storm the Capitol living beside me.

So do I. I unfortunately have a family member to whom Trump is like a deity and everyone who says anything negative about him is “lying”. That person also believes in conspiracy theories without doing any critical thinking and fact checking. And that person’s irrational way of thinking also affects me negatively every day, and I can’t get away from that person due to my health issues. However, I still don’t obsess over it to the point of bringing this stuff into articles about video games, including the political and social beliefs related to that person.

Especially since I am always aware of the fact that plenty of people who get fed up with any kind of political discussion about any political party or person in real life, are using video games and articles and news about video games as an escapism from any kind of mentioning of those real life topics. And I am not a selfish enough person to prevent them from seeking escapism in such medium.

Anyway, let’s just end this pointless discussion. My original reply was just a friendly suggestion, based on what I said in the previous paragraph. Whether you want to do it or you want to continue letting politics consume you and influence your posts – it is up to you.

My original reply was just a friendly suggestion

And my original comment was a JOKE, which was intended to create humor. Instead, I got railed on and had to explain myself, and was accused of being obsessive and totally focused on politics. Thus leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth and going to bed unhappy instead of amused as was intended.

Yeah, people use games as escapism. If I even bothered to explain more of my life to you, you’d see this is one of my few outlets even left. So sometimes other topics crop up.

It’s a shame you’re so intent on silencing others viewpoints.

Well, I made a long verbose comment, but they silenced it. So much for the theory that ‘one side’ is being silenced. ;)

Pretty beautiful outdoor environments, including the lighting. And the game is still basically in Alpha. Really can’t wait to try it out when it will be available for free testing. Also, you can see from video that Steven Sharif is fully invested into the game, including all mechanics and details, and he is glad to answer all the questions about different parts of the game – compare that to the videos that New World team has released and then guess which game has more chance of becoming successful and which one has the high chance of shutting down shortly after release ;-)

Let’s be honest, if it even gets released before getting thrown into the pile of other game corpses. :). From the latest articles confirming they are simply trend chasing instead of actually investing into the genre they will continue to fail… Oh Amazon.

Hoping AoC can bring some new interest into mmos though.

New World will definitely release – they put so much money into that, and they are still adding fixes to it. Granted, most of the fixes consist of adding more grind for people, like more useless fluff to craft, but still, they are working on it. Releasing it would at least cover some development costs since it is buy-to-play and not “f2p”.

They do indeed have some nice assets, but I hope they spend more time refining the areas so it doesn’t look like a bunch of randomly placed assets. I know it’s an alpha version, but I also know that things often don’t change all that much, and especially in the area of details it still looks very poor compared to the other big mmorpgs, at least for now.
