Warframe is running an experiment on PC to guide new players into crafting

Being a new Warframe player can be an overwhelming experience, particularly in regard to the variety of systems and activities available to you once you’ve completed the first couple of missions. It would stand to reason, then, that the ability to craft things might go missed by many. It’s with that in mind that the devs at Digital Extremes have announced a little experiment on the PC version that’s trying to guide fresh Tenno through the game’s crafting systems.

In this experiment, new players of the game will have one of four different events happen to them when they complete the Vor’s Prize quest for the first time: They will either receive one of three different inbox messages with a blueprint for the Burston burst rifle and some/all/none of the crafting materials needed to build it, or they will not receive any inbox message at all as a control. The experiment will run for about four weeks on PC, with the devs closely monitoring which of these four options leads to a better introduction to crafting and an overall better new player experience.

This experiment appears to be one of the first steps the devs are looking to take in order to improve its onboarding. “When it comes to reviewing our New Player Experience, there’s a lot of clear work to be done in terms of directing players to key story progression,” the post admits. “However, when it comes to systems progression, we want to run some proper tests on what the true best way to teach a player the value of Crafting and Resources is.”
