I haven’t listened in a while and really enjoyed this episode.
On the one hand I always feel like I have to play enough for subs to be worth it, but on the other I’m getting really tired of having to approach any particular game with a strategy to maximize my investment.
I’d rather just know what the price is and pay it at this point. Do we really have to make this like stock derivatives?
Not sure I want to come and read and post here anymore. The ongoing pissiness about subscription based mmorpgs is gotten rather old from various writers and having two guests in a row who are anti subscription plus Bree’s snark throughout this episode just really sours me on the site.
I’ve yet to see solid counters to the points that a few of us have made over the years as to why subscription based mmorpgs are better for the player and the developer. Yeah, I think I’m done here, I’ve been coming to the site less and interacting less. I think it’s time to just walk away.
So two of the hosts watch the snow in April, whilst Bree is watching the plastic bags from the Trash Jail drift a la American Beauty… Do we qualify as a dystopia yet?
Ultimately, what I would like to see for Battlepasses are them just being an unlock, like a reputation. Maybe you can only work on 1 at a time, so you could just go into a menu and select the one you want to work on. That way, you can eventually get all thing things you paid for at your own pace. The ways you earn progress with them might change as the game goes through whatever seasons, but they would never expire.
But that would eliminate the FOMO to drive the all important ‘engagement’
Best episode of Buffalo Bull yet!
Trove on Switch is great news, i didn’t have anything to say so i didn’t comment, Trove is a gem, without it i wouldn’t download Glyph and i would not think about trying Rift.
Hah it’s all good – honestly Trove never gets many comments. I suspect it’s just that it has a lot of kids on console playing, rather than core PC MMO vets, and that’s fine – I still have such a soft spot for it, and my kids still play, so we’ll keep on covering it anyway. :D
