Population Zero has apparently sunsetted, is now just plain zero

Zero, zero, zero, Ted Danson.

Population Zero appears to have fulfilled its destiny and now has zero population.

Reports are coming in from both press and players on Steam that the survival MMO has quietly closed down its servers, and the game’s website has already been taken offline. It’s probably for the best, as the title had not seen a daily peak of over 10 players since last September nor had any communication from the developers since last July.

It’s truly a case of a game falling in a forest when nobody’s around to mourn its passing, as not even the official Discord sported anyone over the weekend who marked the occasion. It seemed like the writing was on the wall a while back, as players have long discussed the rumor that the entire team had been laid off:

Last fall, we covered what had happened to this one-promising title and noted that both development and engagement were way down following its so-so early access launch in June 2020.
