Well, that’s the Alpha done and dusted. Each stage showed something new and overall showed that their version of Space legs does appear to work. There was the disappointment of Phase 3, the exploration mechanics and plant scanning game look was not where we’d hoped.

However, I didn’t have one single CTD as I ran and flew about the Alpha and there was a lot fun to be had with the missions and the on foot combat zones, once they turned down the NPC’s difficulty. Although, I am so sick of cutting a panel out of a spaceship, just for it to fall further into the hole you just cut and not allow access to the bits you need! That and exploration has to be sorted out.

Personally, I was quite concerned about the state of the release based on the Alpha but I understand that we’ll be getting much more variety on the 19th than we’ve been playing with so I’m much more reassured. I’m hesitantly looking forward to it.

Gotta admit, it looks pretty much like a low-g quake server with nicer models.

There are so many issues there – they’re supposed to be fighting in 0.13g…that’s only slightly less than the moon (0.16). Sure, they have low-g big jumps but the characters fall too fast when killed (slightly slower, but seems inconsistent), there appears to be no consequences to recoil, and mostly they’re literally just running along like normal. There’s a reason Apollo astronauts used the little bunny hops.

I didn’t watch long enough to see if anyone used grenades.

Yeah, I think I’m going to let this cook a little while after release before I consider buying.
