Ice ice baby.

Nerdy Bookahs is pretty dang delighted to come back to a “feast” in Guild Wars 2, thanks to all of the new content in the game after an extended absence. I can relate to this.

“One of the good things of returning to an MMO after not having played it much for a longer time is that there is so much to discover (in MMOs that are still getting new content, at least).”

Read on for more picks from the MMO blogging community, including essays on SWTOR, FFXIV, and New World.

GamingSF: A classic mode for SWTOR?

“All those side quests added so much more depth to galactic and local conflicts. We could just choose to do them anyway, but I feel the game could do with a switch to turn the clock back. Here I think separate servers would be a bad idea: let’s not split the playerbase unnecessarily. If you could either create a Classic mode character, or even, switch on Classic mode, that would allow player characters to still see and interact with each other in some form (whether trading, roleplaying or PVP).”

Aywren Sojourner: Welcome back FFXIV’s Soken

“It tells a story of the unsung strength of people who put their lives into making the games that we love to play. It also tells how our love of that work as gamers and our support of the game can help heal and strengthen the resolve of those who put that kind of sacrifice into this creation.”

Tobold: Not getting my hopes up yet about Lightforged

“They say ‘We are looking to combine elements from Minecraft or Roblox with tabletop RPGs to form a new way to play roleplaying games.’ That A) sound like the game I’ve been waiting for, for the last 20 years. And B) sounds like the game that everybody tried to make in the last 20 years and failed.”

Kitty Kitty Boom Boom: New World unmasked

“So they are creating a game on purpose with low quality of life, and they will then sell you extras in the store to alleviate the pain! This is nothing new, but it’s so barefaced and early that people are rightfully up in arms even after the clarification.”

The Ancient Gaming Noob: How long can the $15 monthly subscription hold out?

“But video games seem stuck. Worse than stuck in the case of MMOs, where free-to-play has become the norm and only a few strong titles can afford to hold the line on requiring a subscription beyond what is essentially a demo period. My headline is a lie in that the fifteen dollar subscription hasn’t held… but in the opposite way that I meant!”

FibroJedi: LOTRO Rohan housing guide

“So, now we have a few weeks between events, I can finally introduce you to my Eastfold Hills home! But, in classic FJ style, I couldn’t just leave it there, so here’s my guide to Premium Houses in Rohan including: Where to buy and which method I think is cheaper, the features of the new housing areas, where to acquire Rohan-themed decorations (if that’s what you want to do, of course) and also a bunch of improvement suggestions to SSG themselves.”

Every day there are tons of terrific, insightful, and unusual articles posted across the MMO gaming blogosphere — and every day, Justin reads as many as he can. Global Chat is a sampling of noteworthy essays, rants, and guides from the past few weeks of MMO discourse.
