Bonus question: If money were no object, what would you do to customize your car?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go Go Fest is probably the only thing that’ll happen. Crowfall might get some time if I’m not too tired. If I’m too tired for that, maybe some Monster Hunter Stories 2. Just got some royal monsters I wanna power up!

If money were no object? Not gonna lie, I’d probably get the old hybrid painted Mega Man themed colors (light blue body, dark blue top) and have his head as an emblem on the hood, with a Rush hood ornament and E-Tank decal over the gas door. I feel like it’s the best thing I could do with it. Now, if I could get a new car and that customization money…

Ben Griggs (@braxwolf): I picked up Far Cry 5 in the Steam Summer Sale and have been loving every minute of it. Might just be the best $9 I’ve ever spent. Besides that, I’ll probably hit World of Warships a little as I continue my grind up several tech tree lines.

I’m not really much of a car guy, but if I had the choice I guess I’d choose to have it modified to never need service. With all of the drivers in my family, it’s exhausting trying to keep up with the required maintenance on four different vehicles.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Same as last week for me – I’ll be in Albion Online, Crowfall, and maybe some Star Wars Galaxies Legends. What can I say, though, I’m still having dumb fun in Albion, and just as I talked myself out of reupping, I kinda want to do it some more, so I just might.

My gut reaction is to say I’d get my car repainted because I’ve never liked the exact shade it is (it’s just not bright and fun enough). But on reflection, I’ll say that I’d rather have those awesome seats that automagically come up out of the floor, a headrest that actually fits short people, the software that automatically parks for you, and somebody to clean it that isn’t me. I guess that’s not customizing so much as upgrading, but that’s the stuff. In my heart of hearts, though, I am secretly one of those people who would unironically ride around in a pink punchbuggy with eyelashes and silly plates.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’m likely going to bounce from Final Fantasy XIV things to mission runs or space trucking in Elite Dangerous to more of Monster Hunter Stories 2. If time allows, anyway.

I whole lot of detailing, cleaning, and repair for my car. Also maybe a little paint job. I guess? It’s hard to form an emotional attachment to a four cylinder Kia.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Got cool stuff to review. Seriously, so cool. But I can’t talk about it; you just need to trust me that I’m working on that this weekend. Don’t worry, it’ll all be clear in a couple of weeks.

I’d love to have my car detaled and then decorated to look like a Transformer in car mode, right down to a conspicuous paint job and a giant Autobot symbol or two on the body. This is what I’ve always wanted.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I will be playing Swords of Legends Online. I might even stream it if I can get my husband to stop putting his music on in the same room. This is the first MMORPG I’ve actually purchased (for more than $1) in a few years. I have also recently taken up trying to do my final two Steam achievements for No Man’s Sky, so I might play a little permadeath. I invariably die in the dumbest ways possible, but it’s the effort that counts. That’s what I tell myself, anyway. I just have to make it to the center of the galaxy in Survival and Permadeath to have all the achievements. I only have one open save slot right now. And there’s RimWorld. There’s always RimWorld.

If money were no object… I would get the little dent taken out of the back passenger side panel where I backed into my kid’s car the first week I had my car.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I don’t think I’m getting any gaming in this weekend. Too busy with IRL summer time fun.

Bonus: I’m not a car customizer really. But maybe I’d get a real nice Tesla! That’d be cool.

Tyler Edwards (blog): I got sucked into the blackhole that is Magic: the Gathering: Arena. Pray for me.

Bonus question: You guys are getting cars?

I’m having alot of fun in ESO and also Monster Hunter World. In ESO I’m playing a Nightblade and leveling/questing I think I am currently level 37, I joined a couple guilds and that’s been helpful, one there seems to be not much text chat and the other there is and everyone seems cool and there’s no expectations from either but still the benefits of having a guild, which works great for me. The ESO community seems very cool. So that’s it for gaming basically. Have a great weekend, thank you.

This weekend, while not mowing lawns and associated house/yard maintenance stuff in the seemingly endless rain in the northeastern US, I’m trying to finally finish Planescape:Torment (EE). I’m reading The Fires of Vesuvius, ‘cuz I’m into ancient history. And I’m considering jumping back into WoW briefly, to see what I missed when I left before Legion dropped; just trying to overcome the feeling that a few weeks from now I’m I’m going to be reminded of why I left in the first place.

Have a nice weekend, and stay safe (and dry!).

Bonus Question: I’m still waiting for my flying car.

Inquisitor: Martyr. New season started last week. 2.0 brought a lot of needed changes to the game and it now plays very well. Still grindy, but that good kind of grind that advances you one heretic at a time. This season, burning them up with a Crusader heavy flamer. Toasty ARPG action.

Bonus: If I had a car? Classic lowrider.

I’ve got me some Mass Effect: Andromeda to get through, and lord almighty I love this game. I do, it’s way better than most people give it credit for, and I will not hear differently.

Been playing a lot of FFXIV as well, with my best friend and a few other good friends, playing through roulettes and such. Good times! It’s weird when everything is at 80 already, but I’m finding things to do!

BONUS QUESTION: If money were no object, I’d get a GPS nav computer built in to the screen in the console. Other than that? It’s GOOD.

This week: After a 11 months of separation, I am finally back with the folks for the weekend visit. Since we’ve been long double vaccinated and given the all clear from reliable sources…to catch up on missed 2 birthdays, 2 Easters, 1 Thanksgiving and a Xmas – the longest I’ve ever been separated from them. So for now, I am enjoying their company. And hopefully more to come…

Also this week: WoW, when I can get to it.

Bonus Answer: I don’t drive. So nothing. However, I would not object when someone offers to drive me around in a pink Ferrari. <3

Have a great week and weekend folks. Please stay safe and get vaccinated…so you too can spend time with your family and close ones, when been separated by this craptastic pandemic. It's worth it! /bows

So, I’ve been playing Crowfall and I’m yet to fully decide what I make of it, only that so far, I’m enjoying it, although I suspect my long-term enjoyment will largely depend on the community.
I like the graphics, although there’s no good reason why on my computer that I can only run them on medium and still only get 40frames compared to other more intensive titles, the game has a lot of work to do in the optimisation side of things.

I don’t mind the UI, but I wish it was easier to get into the chat box with my mouse than having to pause the whole game to do so (I am aware you can tab between), I get the sense this feels like the sort of move you’d do for a console port, only that there’s no console or even controller support natively, so it’s an interesting choice and one I suspect they might end up changing. The map as I’ve seen other commenters here say, is awful. Look, it’s cute and it reminds me of that game Godus (anyone remember that?), but it’s clunky for this kind of game. Seriously, there’s a lag bringing up the map and quickly trying to look at other maps to see where battles might be also you feel a lag, I’m not sure if it’s because there’s almost too much detail despite its lack of detail if that makes sense, but a 2D map with floating elements over the top would be quicker and more useful than this fancy 3D voxel map thing.

Pretty much the only reason I was willing to buy it at its full price now was to put my money where my mouth was in saying I’d buy a game which had an Australian server out of the box, the devs on the forums seem to have this strange attitude about providing local servers, this almost hero-complex about that gives me an odd feeling reading their interactions, this is despite the fact despite not seeming to understand that it’s for many of us a bare minimum requirement these days while also being a selling point.

Before they yeeted the API to show us the player numbers, the Australian server so far has been the most consistent 24/7 server sitting around 100 players regardless of time of day, naturally during the peak times the US servers got up to around 300-500 players, but off-peak? They crash hard, same goes for the EU servers, off-peak just crashes down, but our server keeps a steady stream of around 100 always, so it’s either one of the lowest, the middle or in fact, the highest populated depending on the time of day, which I thought was interesting. A good case in build it and we will come, but also of how volatile this game’s population currently is as we’re the exception, although I suspect the US Dregg also will be boosted by OCE & South American players as well due to our lacking one.
The issue of the player count is interesting, in theory all you need for this kind of game is a dedicated core who will always show up at certain times but being that this is the launch it’s not a strong opener and it will only with time make it harder for new players to join in despite how quickly you can get into the PVP (or even straight away with the level-25 boosts).

I seriously don’t entirely understand their “we’ll market it soon” approach, I mean seriously, just keep the game in Early Access if that’s their attitude. Are they scared of New World? Are they hoping it’ll crash, and they’ll market it afterwards? A hard prospect as New World also will be providing us local servers and if their devs are less touchy about the subject then they might find an exodus across the board.

Crowfall is fun, but it’s not ready. They’ve made odd choices, I suspect because those who played the game in beta knew it inside and out, but for new players like myself coming, there’s a lot of strangeness. It’s the kind of game where you really need to watch a couple YouTube videos explaining some stuff to you, despite their decent enough NPE there’s a lot which goes unsaid, which can be good and bad, I suspect they wanted players to explore and find things out for themselves, but this is a PVP game at its core, at least it’s meant to be, but right now it’s turning more into a crafting game, which is fine, good even, but if the playerbase shrinks that balance might go way off.

So, I don’t know what to make of Crowfall yet, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played, I’ve seen the potential, but it was not ready and the developers’ attitude of confidence around the game despite its (deliberate?) wet cloth launch is one which I think will leave more confused than assured.

Unless they have a genius plan, they need to hurry up or they’re going to miss their own train.

PS. I enjoyed a moment in the General Chat where players were crudely drawing their gaming chair postures and sending links in the chat. A competition of horrible posture.

I won’t be gaming much this weekend because (this is actually somewhat relevant!) it’s Mysterium Convention time.

I’ll be working on con stuff for most of the weekend – we’re virtual again this year so doing so from my house – but when I have downtime I’ll be in Myst Online hanging out with virtual attendees there. :)

Swords of Legends Online, followed by more SOLO, then a little SOLO on the side to round it off.

Since launch last Friday, I’ve somehow managed to clock 74 hours in the game. Haven’t been able to put it down, beyond the natural tiredness that comes with looking at a computer screen for too long.

Could’ve done with this last summer, would’ve made the early lockdowns so much more bearable. Now I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that the next content update for SOLO turns up in late September, so I have some time to get my fill of New World when it launches.
